DPR sample galleries with RAW images is one of the best sources, in my opinion, regardless of their review conclusions (respectfully). A quick word about the sample images taken with the lenses in this article, none have had any corrective work for distortion or lens flare, they are processed with levels/contrast/saturation only. I don’t really want to carry a Nikon with that lens if I’m willing to carry full frame I’d rather have a GFX100s with a 23mm if I’m shooting wide. This is printed on tractor-fed paper with tear-off sides and dot-matrix printing of model and serial numbers! Designed for FX format DSLRs it is also compatible with DX-format cameras on which it offers the 35mm focal length equivalence of 21-36mm.

It represents a noticeable step beyond its DSLR-oriented predecessor in terms of sharpness and yet is far lighter and noticeably more compact. DG DN Art Lens in L-Mount is a high quality wide angle zoom lens in Sigma's ART series range, perfect for for Sigma fp, Panasonic S1, S1R and S1H full frame Leica L mount mirrorless camera systems. This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware. And the optics, although not quite as good as it’s bigger brother, are certainly not bad by any means – in fact they are very good. has been known for its remarkable edge-to-edge performance, superb colors, and excellent contrast across its zoom range.

S turns in a great performance across its zoom range in terms of detail, provided you're willing to stop down a bit. Don’t let that fool you in to thinking the 16-35 is virtually the same in performance, because in certain conditions it’s not, BUT, in a lot of conditions it’s performance isn’t as noticeably inferior. maximum aperture is effective in low light and creates a shallow depth of field with pleasing out-of-focus highlights enhanced by a rounded 9-blade diaphragm.

I own and have shot with various Pro lenses built to last, but something about the 14-24 makes it really stand out, maybe its that chubby shape which adds a more solid feel to the build (even if it is a placebo effect). introduced in 2007 and sold today) is bigger and heavier and less practical than this lens because it can't use any filters — but it's just as sharp corner-to-corner, even wide open in actual use and costs much less. For ultra wide-angle photography needs on DX sensors, a better choice would be the Nikon 12-24mm f/4G DX or Nikon 10-24mm f/3. Truly in a class of its own, this ultra-wide-angle lens delivers incredible sharpness, contrast and colour—whether you shoot stills or movies. With a 9-bladed rounded diaphragm I get soft 18-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light only at the smallest apertures, and they're not very sharp.

I'd have to expose for f/16 at 32 seconds on Velvia 50, and it's a pain trying to muscle a tripod into exactly the right point in 3D space to get this composition, which is trivial hand-held. The correct way to use an ultrawide is to jam it into whatever you are photographing, which effectively rubs the viewer's nose in your subject. You can look at the 14-24mm from outside of the picture angle and still see glass, which means that stray light can hit that glass, too.The "S" designation has no other purpose than subliminal seduction; Nikon and electronics and automobile and every kind of marketer have been using letters like "S" and "X" in model numbers since the 1940s for this same reason. Although the physical length of the lens does not change (due to the fixed plastic hood), the front element moves in and out when the focal length is changed. Detailed specifications for the lens, along with MTF charts and other useful data can be found on the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.
