The end gets a bit thriller-ish with the evil MWA making Mary choose if she’ll give up her sons to save all men, and her managing to subvert them even though she’s in hospice as the book ends.

Forty-four years ago, as any schoolgirl can tell you, the moth’s eggs hatched and an army of caterpillars spread their tiny toxic threads on every breath of wind. The men in the future, such as Tony and Cole, are characterised as naïve – not stupid by any means, but undereducated and cloistered. While the pacing at the present time tends to be slower and calmer, the memories of our characters tend to depict more tense moments, and it balances pretty well. Overall, glad I got it for free, good time user-upper but just needed a little more polishing of the story and supporting characters.Clearly, women don’t know anything about banks either, because there is some kind of barter system that uses paper credit slips and travel vouchers? There is one flashback scene later in the book where Claire, whose fate was uncertain to the reader up to that point, is revealed to have succumbed to the disease and is hospitalized with all the men. Set 40 years after a devastating toxin infects all men and boys, new dystopian thriller Moths shows a world run by women.

Also, it’s estimated that women make up less than 20% of engineers in the tech industry - without whom, no Internet network, or mobile phone signal would be possible. Surrounded by rugged coastline, dramatic castles and rolling countryside, Beth loves nothing more than shutting her door on all that and curling up with a cuppa and a book instead. The themes explored in Moths are extremely relevant such as sexism and freedom, but unlike books such as The Handmaids Tale, the boot is on the other foot.Aremastered and revitalised version of the previously self-published, smash-hit dystopian thriller by the same name, Moths shows us a new, post-pandemic world. Those men that are alive are kept in facilities or for those slowly losing their mind, they are kept in sanitoriums until they pass.

Moths is a harrowing story in several ways, but a thoroughly mesmerising one, and one I found thoroughly absorbing. I definitely need more of this world, and I hope that there can be some semblance of peace found in this dark world.

Fans of The Left-Handed Booksellers of London will once again relish being transported back into a whistelestop mystery filled with wit, imagination and intrigue. Incredibly thought provoking, complex, and emotive, I loved Moths (but not moths- those guys still suck). I loved seeing the story through the eyes of an older woman, a perspective we don't see enough in fiction. I wanted my protagonist to be an older woman, flawed but capable, and constantly underestimated by those close to her.

Moths is a feminist dystopia originally self-published by Hennigan, now republished by Angry Robot and expected for release in March 2023. However, the art department at Angry Robot came up with this design and I just fell in love with it. If you do nothing, you will be auto-enrolled in our premium digital monthly subscription plan and retain complete access for 65 € per month. But they could have spotted a few fleas BEFORE you released the book and helped strengthen your story. My very brilliant agent Liza DeBlock at Mushens Entertainment has secured me a smashing two-book publishing deal with Angry Robot Books for MOTHS and TOXXIC. Their poison affects only men - and it affects every single man - resulting in almost immediate death, or worse, violent murderous psychosis. Mary is a carer in one of the facilities, she is also one of the few people who remember the world the way it was before.
