There are then the Tidy Stem Tubing Kits; these have a slightly longer fused loop, which is used to mount a ‘tubing to stem’ connector. As the name suggests, this seamlessly joins your tubing to the Tidy Stem, with no worries of the tubing pulling out and ruining your solid bag! Again these come with six stems, as well as three connectors and two metres of tungsten tubing for your three rods. Years ago I started tying my bags or mesh to the hooklink swivel or above the lead, but Gardner and other brands now make PVA bag swivels or clips. It's easy enough to tie a bag on and hook the outside corner, so you can have ready prepared bags or mesh. Boilies: These are hard, round baits typically made from a mix of cereals, fish meals, and flavourings. Given their solid nature, boilies are versatile. They can be used with both PVA solid bags and mesh, but many anglers prefer to use PVA bags when introducing a small number of boilies directly around their hookbait. Complete Dissolution: PVA bags are formulated to dissolve completely in water, but the rate of dissolution can vary based on water temperature and the specific formulation of the PVA. In very cold water, the bags might take longer to dissolve. However, they should eventually dissolve without leaving any residues.

With regards to the mix, it is important to keep all of the particles small, with nothing exceeding 3mm in size. This means that when the bag is full and compressed down, there are no gaps present. From the autumn until the spring I opt for a low- oil type mix, generally light in colour with food items that are soluble and digestible for the carp in the cold water. The only time this will change is during the summer months, when I will switch over to an oily, fishmeal-based mix, where the oils and attraction can disperse well in the warmer water. When using PVA mesh, one of the best rigs for PVA bags and mesh is the hair rig. Here's a basic outline: Storage Solutions: One of the key factors that determine the longevity and effectiveness of your PVA products is how they're stored. But what makes this tactic so good and are there times when another approach may be a better option? This feature takes a close look at my approach with solid bags, how I use them to great effect and constructing them from start to finish. Finding fish will always be the number one tip to catching carp, however, setting up your solid bag rig to give you the best chance is key for this method of fishing.

As with other types of carp rig, you’ll need to start off with a leader. For solid bags, however, it’s often recommended that you use a slightly heavier leader than normal – something in the 15lb-20lb range. The PVA bag itself will dissolve in the water within a few minutes, depending on the water temperature and the type of PVA product used. Cold water can slow down the dissolving process, while warm water speeds it up. Each of the versions come in two different diameters, 5 and 5.75mm, to ensure a neat fit in most inline leads on the market – they really have thought of everything! The entire setup is built to be extremely robust, with a 45lb breaking strain, and by utilising flexible fluorocarbon instead of wire, this can bend and flex without weakening. Furthermore, avoiding the use of wires improves fish safety. All in all they are a fantastic little product that will be a must for solid-bag advocates!

This is because when the PVA bag dissolves it can put quite a bit of strain on your fishing line– especially if there are multiple fish feeding on your patch of bait.

Bream and Tench: These fish sift through the substrate for food and are likely to be attracted to the dense baiting zones created by PVA bags. Every bait has its unique texture, size, and consistency. Thus, not all of them are universally suited for both PVA bags and meshes. Let's delve into some popular bait choices and determine which of the two PVA products they pair best with: Each Gemini Leader is produced using 100% Fluorocarbon, our leaders are not plastic coated. The fluorocarbon material we use has a light refractive index of 1.42 (very similar to water), making them near invisible underwater.
