Description

Black Butterfly è il libro con le frasi che mi piacciono di più e sono felicissima di averlo acquistato.

Black Butterfly is a compilation of poetry that speaks to the silence of loss, fight for families, and love for foster children. Used books have different signs of use and might not include supplemental materials such as CDs, Dvds, Access Codes, charts or any other extra material.Based on real-life incidents and experiences from her own family and relatives, author Pricilla Morris paints a picture from a few decades ago, that has resonance and relevance in the present context. It would have been very useful, for instance, to have maps that supplemented the narrative descriptions of Baltimore's geography and to be able to see on the map the neighborhoods mentioned. It's gotten me on a whole quest to learn more about the post-segregation actions that affected the black neighborhood where I lived in Minneapolis, where conditions seemed at the time to have just grown up naturally, but now I know that wasn't the case at all.

Brown’s The Black Butterfly: The Harmful Politics of Race and Space in America offers such social awareness. There were so many situations I simply couldn't fathom - your family property being distributed among strangers because of a communist government's weird beliefs, being on the waiting list for more than a decade to get a flat allotted, the government declaring that anyone can move into empty house as the owners have “abandoned” them… and this is even before the actual war began! The author depicts the complexities of war that includes turning neighbor against neighbor, making difficult decisions to leave or stay, caring for strangers, family, and friends, waking up one day as a refugee, loyalty to neighborhood and homeland, friends and acquaintances of different ethnicities are suddenly enemies, separation of families, etc.

he also was very thorough in areas that should be addressed for healing and equity, and gave really reasonable and practical steps (tracks 5-6ish? With beautiful writing and incredible insight, this novel deals with the many facets of the ensuing siege and war. Brown will demonstrate how data visualization can be a tool to distribute resources to communities in need, and speak to the roles of design, planning, and preservation in healing and restoring redlined Black neighborhoods. It is a clear and damning recount of the relentless physical and policy violence against the black community in Baltimore and throughout the country.
