Description

If I Let You Go by Charlotte Levin is a deeply moving and gripping portrayal of a woman coming to terms with loss. You feel the anxiety that situations induce in her yet she also has humour even if it’s the self deprecating kind. Jenna moves from the busy hustle and bustle of city life as an artist in Bristol to live in a remote area of Wales.

Apparently Jacob’s father never wanted any- thing to do with him, so it’s always been the two of them. Jenna’s husband’s voice does not make an entry in later in the novel but Mackintosh does this for strategic plot reasons.

This also leads Jenna into the arms of a gentle local vet Patrick, who offers her friendship, as well as love. I Let You Go is told from a number of viewpoints, from Jenna, a sculptor making a new life for herself in Penfach, through to police officers Ray and Kate, to Jenna’s husband. I came to the conclusion that Mackintosh presents the reader with a realistic portrayal of an event that is every parent’s nightmare.

It’s too soon for me to release an official list of “2016’s Most-Anticipated Thrillers,” but I can promise you that when I do, I LET YOU GO will be making (and possibly topping) that list. However the guilt she still carries, about a devastating loss that happened eleven years ago, cannot be erased. Janet Brown works as a cleaner and she’s a very good one too as she finds gleaming surfaces calming.Even when you think she’s pulled the last piece out from under you, and surely her story can’t withstand another twist, she does it.

They parked the car a hundred meters away from a large white tent, erected in an attempt to protect from the rain whatever evidence might have been left.Ruth Jones, author of Love Untold Heartrending and surprising, with an very believable protagonist, this is a tale of loss, grief, abuse and fractured relationships. She had a fiery passion that made Ray nostalgic for his days as a hungry DC, before seventeen years of bureaucracy had ground him down. Upon Ian's arrival in Wales following the police now knowing who the real hit and run criminal is, he tries to attack Jenna again. Waiting for a break in the traffic they duck across the busy road, and she tightens her grip on the small hand inside the soft woolen glove, so he has to run to keep up. Shift have got the scene contained and the skipper’s taking a statement from the child’s mother as we speak.

To the point that it's taken me nearly 24 hours to be able to articulate how this book made me feel. She looked up at him, twisting the drawstring so tightly around her hands the cord gouged red grooves in her skin. From the reaction on Brian’s face, it was clear this was the last thing he wanted to do, but he stood up and left the room with Kate, no doubt to moan to her about CID pulling rank. Apparently Jacob’s father never wanted anything to do with him, so it’s always been the two of them.

As a frequent suspense reader, I’ve become quiet adept at predicting twists, but this one is so masterfully plotted and executed that I gasped the moment it happened. On a rainy afternoon, a mother's life is shattered as her son slips from her grip and runs into the street. I could really imagine myself walking along the beach and the oftentimes wild and barren outcrops above, with the wind whistling and a dog at my heals, very, very British. In a year or so he would know her as well as he knew the rest of the team, but he hadn’t quite sussed her out yet.
