She earns and retains her clients total trust through a mixture of hard work, commitment and results. But only a few decades later, at the end of the century, the building had become a crumbling and ill-cared-for ruin.

Brand has done an excellent job of placing the sexploits of the Byron family into the context of a broader social and political history . Byron’s inheritance of the dilapidated family seat as a child may be a familiar story, but reading about it after learning of the trials and tribulations of his ancestors provides a different and somewhat melancholy perspective. Brand is also adept at handling challenging children disputes (with special expertise in relation to children with autism). With over 25 years of experience specialising in all aspects of family law, Emily is known for her creative approach as a litigator and is a skilled negotiator whether in the context of private settlements or court proceedings. Emily's experience ranges from drafting pre and post nuptial agreements to litigating on children disputes in the High Court.

Her excellent judgement together with her first class skill in putting clients at their ease makes for a formidable combination that puts her in a class of her own. Emily Brand is advising the wife in her high-stakes divorce settlement with her former husband, a multi-millionaire with significant business interests and high social standing. Whether in court proceedings or negotiating private settlements, Emily delivers results for her clients, always focusing on their specific needs. We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. A compelling story of a prominent and controversial characters, it is a sumptuous family portrait and an electrifying work of social history.

The book also touches on a variety of other elements of social and cultural history, including theatre, education, medicine and illness, and the role of women. However, her history is as much caught up with the “fiddle-faddle” of the bon ton, and is all the more enjoyable for it…a ravishing family saga’ The Sunday Times Brings to life the colourful characters of the Georgian era’s most notorious families with all the verve and skill of the era’s finest novelists … A powdered and pomaded, sordid and silk-swathed adventure’ Hallie Rubenhold ‘A chocolate box full of delicious gothic delights – jump in’ Lucy Worsley ‘Brand is a great historian, equal to the huge challenge of telling the story of history’s most turbulent and colourful lives’ Dan Snow ‘A mesmerizing tale of sex, obsession, madness, invention, and reinvention. The Fall of the House of Byron follows the fates of Lord Byron’s ancestors over three generations in a drama that begins in rural Nottinghamshire and plays out in the gentlemans’ clubs of Georgian London, amid tempests on far-flung seas, and in the glamour of pre-revolutionary France. I qualified as a primary school teacher in 2003 and then worked at Horniman Primary school for the next 13 years. Emily leads the Family Department at Boodle Hatfield - a team renowned for their 'exceptional legal finesse combined with an ability to vigorously defend [their] client’s best interests in a calm and measured way'.

She advises UHNW individuals on cases involving complex assets and structures including family businesses, offshore trusts, private equity and hedge funds. Emily’s experience ranges from drafting pre and post nuptial agreements to litigating on children disputes in the High Court. Just as it had shocked the society of Georgian London, the story of the Byrons, and the folklore of their outlandish scandal, would his influence his life and poetry for posterity. As well as being a family biography, this is also a history of the eighteenth century, encompassing major historical events such as the American and French Revolutions, and the Jacobite rebellion. William, known as ‘The Wicked Lord’, was an unpopular and eccentric figure who caused the family name to become associated with scandal - partly due to his trial for murder - and he steadily laid waste to the family’s fortune and estate at Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire.

Her work takes her from the chat up lines of Restoration libertines to Georgian sex manuals and the novels of Jane Austen. Emily is the Head of Family and specialises in family law with particular expertise in complex financial proceedings, often with an international dimension. Her book The Fall of the House of Byron (John Murray, 2020) is a sweeping history of the 18th century through the eyes of one notorious family. Her new book The Fall of the House of Byron, her first substantial work of narrative non-fiction, is due for publication by John Murray in April 2020.
