Tropes show how literature is conceptualized and created and which mixture of elements makes works and genres unique: Here is the #1 New York Times bestselling novel that reignited the entire Star Wars publishing phenomenon. The biggest event in the history of Star Wars books, Heir to the Empire follows the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia after they led the Rebel Alliance to victory in Star Wars : Episode VI Return of the Jedi .

Anyways, I went into Heir to the Empire with a little bit of skepticism. After all, the book is over 25 years old now, so I had the suspicion that maybe the reason people loved the Thrawn books so much was because of blind nostalgia. But I was wrong, for the book still holds up reasonably well. While I don't love it as much as other people do, I still would consider it a great book and it's reputation as a ground breaking classic for the Star Wars franchise is very well earned. Due to the events that led to the Battle of Sluis Van, lead smuggler Talon Karrde has left his base on Myrkr and is now fleeing from Grand Admiral Thrawn's Imperial forces. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker meets the insane Joruus C'baoth and agrees to be taught by him on the planet Jomark to further his knowledge of the Force. However, when Thrawn captures Karrde, Mara Jade finds that she once again needs help from Luke, the man she so hates under the belief that he killed her beloved master, Emperor Palpatine, during the Battle of Endor five years earlier. So Mara travels to Jomark, and she and Luke defeat C'baoth just as he tries to kill them for taking Luke away from the training, which Luke and Mara both know is psychologically compromised due to C'baoth's insanity. The two of them infiltrate Thrawn's Empire and save Karrde. For a recap, here is every single one of the books that has been or will be released as a part of The Essential Legends Collection, including the three new additions:Talon Karrde stated that the fleet was lost in 32 BBY (at the time of The Phantom Menace), but Captain Gilad Pellaeon set it at fifty-five years prior to the date of the story (which is set in 9 ABY.) The New Essential Chronology sets the fleet's launch following the Stark Hyperspace War, but does not implicitly state it was lost the same year, although the implication is that it was lost before 44 BBY. It is more likely that a high-ranking Imperial officer has the correct date than a smuggling chief, especially because Karrde said it was "about ten years before the Clone Wars."

I also like that there is a little talk about the death of the Emperor, which seems to be a trivial fact but here it is known that the point in space where the second death star was leaves an evil imprint on the Force due to said death. An interview with Timothy Zahn, author of Heir to the Empire". Zoklet. Archived from the original on 2010-05-21 . Retrieved 21 July 2022.

I am quite looking forward to all the, hopefully coming, fandom inspired works, because there will certainly come pearls and masterpieces that are not just better than the movie, or even series in general, but also own the standard grew with introducing or expanding already existing, amazing antiheroes. Britt, Ryan (February 28, 2013). "How Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire Turned Star Wars into Science Fiction". Tor.com. Archived from the original on June 16, 2015 . Retrieved August 26, 2015. However, again, due that the novel was written several years before of that any happened before Episode IV, so it was great to watch all the details and planning done by Timothy Zahn, the author, about the Clone Wars and events around that era, however, nowadays there are already some “timeline mistakes”, but... Finally, the climax once again was underwhelming. While I give credit that the action itself was improved, the outcome was disappointing, and it felt like just the same thing from before- just with all the advantages for the villains OFF SCREEN. Come on! You're an awesome character Thrawn but you need to up your game. Zahn, Timothy (2011). "Endnote 13". Heir to the Empire: The 20th Anniversary Edition. By that time, Leia and Karrde had arrived on Wayland. Karrde suggests using his pet Vornskrs Sturm and Drang to find Mara. One thing that helps this book stand out is the space battle at the end. This is a superb space battle, and just might be one of my absolute favorites. The whole mystery of the Katana fleet, mixed with the whole race to see who will get there first is already exciting enough. Mix in the whole Borsk Fey'lya stuff and the surprise characters and its just delightful. A much more exciting final battle than the final battle in book one.

In an interview with CloneWeb (translated from French), Zahn talked extensively about the past, present, and future of Thrawn as a character. When asked about the start of his story ( Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command), noted that he wanted to create a Star Wars antagonist unlike any one previously seen, so he made an effort to emphasize Thrawn as a military leader as opposed to a dark sorcerer: Shortly after the release of the novel, Lucasfilm Fan Club Magazine clarified, although the book was licensed and approved by Lucasfilm, Heir to the Empire is not George Lucas' story, nor the official continuation of the saga, but, rather, a story of Timothy Zahn's own imagination. [11] The sourcebooks released for the novels noted that all products taking place after Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi, are the author's vision of what may have happened, and not the true fate of the characters. [12] [13] [14] In 1994, Howard Roffman, head of Lucas Licensing stated that, the books following the events of Episode VI. were never intended to be the story of the planned Episode VII-IX. [15]There a final danger awaits. The Dark Jedi C'baoth schemes in his secret fortress, directing the battle against the rebels, nursing his insanity, and building his strength to finish what he had already started—the destruction of Luke Skywalker. Oh, and I'm not even going to mention C'Boath. Evil Jedi extraordinaire who errrr does nothing except preside as court judge to a bunch of farmers. I'm not even kidding. Evil Jedi C'Boath who is so badass that he gets Luke to come and visit him and then MAKES HIM be judge to a bunch of farmers. And I'm not even kidding.
