Description

Following the highly successful and award winning Diamond 9 series was always going to be a difficult task. But Wharfedale engineers were determined to bring the latest Diamind right into line with the standard of performance expected from a stand mount/bookshelf speaker in 2009.

The Diamond 12.1 speakers are set up for bi-wire use with the upper terminals reserved for treble use and the lower terminals aimed at mid-bass driver use. Metal straps are included is bi-wire is not required. The terminals themselves have a screw thread and will take banana plugs, spades or even bare wire.

range is the range of input power in watts RMS that a loudspeaker is designed to handle. While using an amplifier within this range ensures the nominal performance , inputting a power that is higher than the max wattage can result in a damaged speaker.

Both the above speaker had THREE 8" Bass drivers. When the DJ lines were discontinue and went on close-out, they represented excellent value for people looking for party speakers. The airy presentation gives the subtle recording plenty of space to breath, while vocals have intimacy and texture. For almost 30 years, Wharfedale's famous Diamond speakers have served as the classic entry point to true high-fidelity sound, their exceptional value for money earning dozens of awards around the globe. Now, with the introduction of the all-new

Wharfedale DX-1 HCP review

I haven't proven that through testing, but I think it is a reasonable assumption. They may have slightly tuned the voicing between the 9's and 10's, but given that the drivers are very similar and made for the same material, I suspect the general tonal characteristics are very similar. compared to a lower max handling speaker. Loudness or the sound level is also impacted by parameters

On the whole, the 10.1s are versatile enough to do justice to a wide variety of music, and they're relatively unfussy about positioning, too. Wharfedale has also tried to enter other markets. For example, you can buy Wharfedale brand PA equipment. For a while they tried to enter the DJ market with the Valdus and Xarus speaker lines. These were high-powered high-output speakers, that were a bit less refined, but very attractively priced. Perfect for Amateur or small venue DJs.Rear-firing twin reflex ports: The speaker’s twin reflex ports have been moved to the rear of the cabinet, to reduce the effects of audible distortion. These ports extend the bass to below 45Hz, contributing to an impressive sense of sonic scale. Wharfedale loudspeakers are so well regarded, above all, for their sonic excellence. Build quality is impeccable and design is focused - resulting in an overall product which is coherent and capable. Wharfedale are an industry leader and consistently produce award-winning and industry-renowned loudspeaker products. Their current range includes Reva, Denton, Diamond 11 and Diamond 200 series, D300 and vintage-look Heritage speakers as well as the newer bluetooth DS-2 speakers and Vista 200 subwoofer. Low Profile Chassis: The open nature of the chassis reduces reflection from rear cone movements, allowing air to move freely through the driver, which in turn results to an overall even response with a much lower distortion. Formed from a high density, injection-moulded polymer pioneered by Wharfedale, the chassis itself provides substantial damping of ring waves.

Somewhat unfairly, I also hooked the little Diamond up to my Anthem STR integrated amplifier. Pushing Killing Joke's Pandemonium through at a hearty volume was the only time when I felt this speaker to be raising the white flag. However, the likelihood that the pairing of Diamond 12.1 and Anthem STR would happen anywhere other than a cruel reviewer's listening room is slim-to-none! THE VERDICT They are what they are and they do what they do, but they are not what they are not, and they don't do what they don't do.The cabinets feel substantial and robust. Affordable they may be but Wharfedale has clearly channelledas much of the cost as possible into their construction – a foundationon which good sound quality is always built. Partly that’s because it’s been going since 1932, when Gilbert Briggs built his first design in his basement in Ilkley in Yorkshire, England. A market town by the river Wharfe, a part of the world generally known to this day, as The Dales. Wharfedale being just one of those. In fact, I seriously considered living in Wharfedale at one time – the perfect place for an audiophile to dwell, eh? Diamond 10 Series, Wharfedale has again raised the bar for affordable, high performance loudspeakers The answer I got was that Wharfedale made one critical marketing mistake. They decided to expand their market by branching out into low end consumer equipment, and rather than expanding their market among general consumers, it devalued their Brand Name for Music Enthusiast and Audiophile. When a new generation grew into the market, they already associated Wharfedale with low end Walmart/Curry's class equipment, and intuitively felt the wanted something better. We can't help switching to the Diamond 10.1 bookshelfs; the added punch, precision and solidity to the sound is noticeable.
