Description

This product should not be used by patients taking other sympathomimetics (such as decongestants, appetite suppressants and amphetamine-like psychostimulants) If you're taking medicines for high blood pressure you shouldn't take Benylin mucus cough & cold all-in-one relief, because the decongestant may make your blood pressure medicine less effective. Symptoms of paracetamol overdosage in the first 24 hours include pallor, nausea, vomiting, anorexia and abdominal pain. Liver damage may become apparent 12 to 48 hours after ingestion. Abnormalities of glucose metabolism and metabolic acidosis may occur. In severe poisoning hepatic failure may progress to encephalopathy, haemorrhage, hypoglycaemia, cerebral oedema, coma and death. Acute renal failure with acute tubular necrosis, strongly suggested by loin pain, haematuria and proteinuria, may develop even in the absence of severe liver damage. Cardiac arrhythmias and pancreatitis have been reported.

Paracetamol is thought to relieve pain by reducing the production of prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord. It works to bring down a fever by affecting an area of the brain that regulates our body temperature (the hypothalamic heat-regulating center). This stops you feeling hot or shivery. This medicinal product contains 19% v/v ethanol (alcohol) i.e. 3.8 ml per 20 ml dose, equivalent to 76 ml beer or 31.6 ml wine.

Phenylephrine should be used with care in patients with hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, closed angle glaucoma and hypertension.

This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23mg) per dose, which is to say essentially 'sodium-free' With phenylephrine there is a possibility that an increased risk of arrhythmias may occur in patients receiving cardiac glycosides or tri-cyclic anti-depressants. Phenylephrine interacts with monoamine oxidase inhibitors; it should not therefore, be taken by patients receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping such medication. If you notice these or any other side effects not included above, stop use and tell your doctor or pharmacist. They will tell you what to do Undesirable effects are rare with normal doses of phenylephrine, however it can cause the adverse effects typical of sympathomimetics including: hypertension, palpitations (tachycardia), headache, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhoea and insomnia. Urinary retention has also been reported – this is more likely to occur in men with an enlarged prostate (frequency not known).Pregnant or breastfeeding: Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant. If you use it when breastfeeding, some drugs in this medicine will be present, in small amounts, in your milk. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you might be pregnant or are breastfeeding The anticoagulant effect of warfarin and other coumarins may be enhanced by prolonged regular daily use of paracetamol with increased risk of bleeding; occasional doses have no significant effect. The alcohol in this medicine may alter the effects of other medicines. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines

Don't take Benylin mucus cough & cold all-in-one relief if you have taken a type of medicine called a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the last 14 days. MAOIs include the antidepressants phenelzine, tranylcypromine, isocarboxazid and moclobemide, and the anti-Parkinson's medicines selegiline, safinamide and rasagiline. This is because the combination of phenylephrine with these medicines could cause a dangerous increase in blood pressure (hypertensive crisis). Paracetamol should be used with care in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment. The hazard of overdose is greater than those with non–cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease. Meanwhile, the following people should get medical advice before taking Benylin all-in-one tablets: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine
