In case you’re wondering, the ‘micro maturation’ has taken place in small Hudson whiskey casks. Cheeky.

Best English – Cotswolds Founder’s Choice: a year and a bit after its first release and Cotswolds has already risen to the top of the increasingly big English whisky heap. The Founder’s Reserve is an interesting whisky, showcasing the distillery’s STR casks – shaved, toasted and recharred wine casks, a type much-loved by the late Jim Swan, distilling consultant extraordinaire and creator of the Cotswolds style – a punchy type of cask that can overpower whisky when not managed correctly. As the award shows, despite the distillery’s relative youth, Cotswolds know how to make good whisky. The Ailsa Bay Sweet Smoke comes with an aroma of woody smoke with a hint of the bonfire and damp heather. The scent is followed by oaky sweetness and vanilla with orange peel. Palate Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. It works only in coordination with the primary cookie.

Micro Maturation:

Initially, Glenkinchie 12 years gives you a feeling of apple pudding flavor, and at the same time, it gives you a palate of lemon drizzle cake with notes of oaks. All such flavor is somehow delicate and gives you a great experience of single malt. Nose: Fresh cereal grains, golden syrup and fresh smouldering oak. Smoked bacon, caramelised apples and salted butter. It has fruit and syrup on the palate with hazelnut, cinnamon, and orange hints. The complexity is added due to its butterscotch notes. The intense and sweet taste comes from plums and raisins. Especially given that Ailsa Bay is one of the world’s most technologically advanced distilleries. Here, we list the 12 best scotch whiskey from the Lowlands, which you can get off the shelf at most liquor outlets. Glenkinchie 12 Year Old It is also smokier. For smoke level they’ve used 22 PPPM (phenol parts per million) instead of 21 PPPM. The whisky has been matured for first 6-9 months in former Hudson Baby Bourbon barrels (by Tuthilltown Spirits) which range in size from 25-100 liters. After that they age the whisky in first-fill and refill American oak and virgin oak for several years.

Okayama Japanese Whisky Distillery We have a selection of Japanese Single Malt Whisky from the Okayama Distillery which is available in Australia for home delivery. The product is the first ever single malt to use data points to adapt and control the liquid. This creates the perfect balance between smoky and sweet, is described by the producers, William Grant & Sons as being:The palate is powerful, don’t let me words about it not being as brutal as an Islay fool you, this is a gateway whisky into the peated single malt scotch whisky category, but it is one that delivers on everything a peated whisky should be; peaty, orange citrus notes, warm honey and soft vanilla notes present too with a long, spicy finish too. Wonderful. Kingsbarns Balcomie is released by Kingsbarns distillery, which released its first core range of single malt whiskey in 2019. It is made up of locally grown fife barley. It is specially matured in American oaks that were previously held by oloroso sherry. The Kingsbarns Balcomie is one of the top-selling single malts of Lowland distillery. The casks used for maturing are chosen for their oak flavor and sherry-rich sweetness to compliment the spirit. It is a perfect balance of spirit and wood. Notes It has quite a floral aroma with a fruity scent. The orange peel and cardamom notes offer a fantastic aroma. Palate Nikka Japanese Whisky We are currently sourcing whisky from this distillery and are confident we will have some soon………… please sign up for a Stillhouse membership and receive a newsletter for up to date news and new releases. The Bladnoch Vinaya is matured in ex-bourbon barrels and ex-sherry casks married together by the master distiller. The Vinaya is produced keeping in mind the teachings of Lowland’s distilleries. The Bladnoch Vinaya is bottled with 46.7% ABV, with non-filtered and natural color. It is made with the finest local ingredients. Nose

If memory serves I preferred the first Ailsa Bay release to this one, but that's a hazy old memory so I could be wrong. Worth trying a dram at this reasonable price point. This is a Lowland’s delicate and balanced whiskey that comes with notes of sweetness. Glenkinchie is one of the best Lowland single malt scotches, a well-known Lemon Malt. The scotch is released by Diageo’s flagship in their Classic melt series. The most readily available scotch is Glenkinchie, which originated from Glenkinchie distillery in East Lothian. Nose Ailsa Bay sweet smoke comes from Girvan Distillery, a famous distillery from grain whiskey. The distillery is located in Lowlands and was built in 1963 by William’s grandson Charles Gordon. It is the second single malt released by the distillery and has more sweetness than the first release of Ailsa Bay. The sweetness of Ailsa Bay sweet smoke has been increased to 119 SPPPM. The whiskey is matured in the Hudson baby bourbon barrels for 6 to 9 months. After the first fill aging process, it is refilled in American Oak and Virgin oak for several years. Nose The whisky itself is superb; sweeter and peatier than the original Ailsa Bay release, but incredibly well balanced. This is not a peated single malt whisky that slaps you around the face like a Laphroaig or an Ardbeg, but it has a sweet, reassuring oomph to it.You’ll find single malt, grain, blended, and other styles being produced in the region. While recipes, distillation techniques, and overall flavours vary, the region is beloved by Scotch whisky drinkers because of its light, gentle, floral, very sippable whiskies. This is because many of the distilleries use triple distillation to make the final product delicate, smooth, and mellow. Lowland Scotch Distilleries – Full List No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. With effortless drinking, the Auchenstoshan scotch offers a rounded and balanced experience. The soft and silky texture with coconut and toffee notes fill the palate. It also has sweet notes with spices like cinnamon and nutmeg on the palate. There are no hard edges that make it comfortable and easy to drink. Finish For a whisky romantic that’s probably not the best way to try and sell whisky. Whisky enthusiasts like myself are accustomed to reading about the history of the distillery and about the traditional side of making whisky. The Irish single malts of the first half of the 1990s have been wowing for the last couple of years. At the time, only Bushmills and Cooley were making single malt, and the general opinion is that most of the whiskey that has been appearing these days is from Bushmills, and the tasting notes for the Teeling 24 Year Old suggest it’s from the same pedigree. A worthy winner. More thoughts
