Description

Some of the information from the television series repeats here, but it is mostly broad concepts, and you don't feel like you're reading a movie novelization; by and large, what repetition there is only serves to reinforce the information, and I wasn't annoyed by it. There is an abundance of beautiful images of creatures from shrimp to great whites, algae to sharks. Until, one day, a rocket ship piloted by a strange-looking adult named Gleesome Goodday crashes on the beach.

From the odd-shaped head of the great hammerhead shark to the hairy strips of baleen in a baleen whale’s mouth, meet some of the ocean’s oddest creatures and discover how they have evolved to live and thrive under the sea. This otherworldly fable spirals out of control when the power-hungry grown-up cons the children into exchanging their youth for his magical promises. The reflection of the suns light from the vast expanse of water covering its surface creates its gem-like blue colour. The majority of the pictures are breath-taking and are accompanied by informative text about the photograph.

Received my book today, it’s a present and unfortunately is covered in marks as shown in photos attached ! Unlike billions of other worlds in the Milky Way, 71 per cent of our Blue Planet is covered by ocean. Summary: Not perhaps as extraordinary as the TV series no doubt will be, but this will still fly on to the shelves of anyone even remotely interested in nature. Some of the underwater creatures are so bizarre that simply reading about them isn't enough; take, for example, the angler fish species where the tiny males latch onto the larger females and fuse with them for life. This beautifully illustrated book introduces children to the animals that live in the world’s waters. This coffee book hardback is the perfect companion to the Blue Planet II documentary series and contains some of the most beautiful, alluring and utterly awe-inspiring underwater photography that I have ever seen. The book has a first class text and good pictures but many of these cover 2 pages that destroys thier integrity. Voyages of migration show how each of the oceans on our planet are connected; coral reefs and arctic ice communities are revealed as thriving underwater cities; while shorelines throw up continual challenges to those living there or passing through.
