About this deal

On page 57 in the "passé composé" conjugated with "avoir" section, there is a brief explanation of the rule of past participles agreeing with the preceding direct object but no exercises are provided for that important grammatical area. The book is an excellent way into French written analysis and might teach you a thing or two about how the French read. This book presents its lessons within the realms of everyday conversations, using dialogue common to most students.

Any time you can spend on consolidating your grammar, using these books, will be very helpful in laying a foundation for your Oxford work. With so many options available, it’s always difficult to know what book will provide you the best value.com in the past, and while that's helpful, I'd really like a physical reference that's more complete. This book shows students easy routes into complicated grammar rules, thus making fluency more attainable. While you might think you know French literature, “Un Style Certain” contains dozens of fascinating references, mainly unknown to non-French speakers. Having done French at school I did have some prior knowledge so to be objective not sure how effective it would be for complete beginners. Do you want to receive a French word of the day, lesson or cultural insight directly in your mailbox?

I also recommend supplementing your traditional textbook studying with immersion by consuming authentic French content, like movies and books. Solo students rejoice; this book is written under the assumption that most of its readers won’t have a teacher at hand to explain things. I've taken 6 years of the language, including the basis for the major at my college, and am planning on studying abroad in the future.

Help Yourself to Advanced Grammar” contains diagnostic tests and activities, enabling you to pinpoint any areas of difficulty and look out for them in the future. Coversallofthebasics, andthemorecomplicatedbitswithexercisesattheendofeachchapter, withanswersattheback. That's fine as far as it goes, but it's not easy to review what I've learned, and I need to understand the structure behind what I'm learning. Turning off the personalized advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive. Whenever possible, explanations include comparisons you to understand the basic logic behind the rules and to remember correct usage.

It’s filled with illustrative examples, useful vocabulary and phrases to take with you in your studies. A Comprehensive French Grammar” is a great option for students who want to take a really in-depth look at the rules that they’re learning. May have some underlining and highlighting of text and some writing in the margins, but there are no missing pages or anything else that would compromise the readability or legibility of the text. Advanced students understand better than most that French verbs and conjugations are tricky topics, and this book pays particular attention to the ways that verbs work in relation to grammar. With the really tricky rules, it can pay to understand them from multiple angles, and this book tells you exactly where to find such varying approaches.

Grammaire en dialogues – Niveau grand débutant by Odile Grand-Clement is an excellent and highly recommended place to start for beginners. I agree with some other reviews that it is easy to read/understand and the exercises are good for reinforcement of the grammar points but yes, it could do with a few more, mainly to give the reader chance to practise and check the answers to ALL the different uses it explains. The book covers a very complete list of topics including all the elements of French sentence structure, prepositions, adjectives, pronouns, adverbs and conjunctions.
