Liliko exists in an amplified version of the daily pressure people experience to look, dress, and act a certain way, an industry where your worth (and income) depends entirely on your physical appeal. She is willing to do whatever she must to keep her lover, her lifestyle, her career and, most importantly, her body. The story isn't as preachy as other stories that try to tackle the artificiality of the celebrity lifestyle and address the matter tastefully, which I appreciated; was like a breathe of fresh air.All because we somehow know that our minds are out to get us and we hope to at least make it a challenge as we go down in flames. I might try to read the Helter Skelter manga as well to see how it compares and how much the movie changed. And now with a new face in her ranks, she is willing to alter her entire body to keep her position even if it means altering her sense of self in the process. We deeply ‘spoil’ this book in discussing it in a way that we don’t always with these episodes, so please know that going in. It leads and informs, and not in a manner that disrespects the reader or would force them to grow bored quickly.
