About this deal

What's more is the added neoprene cushion in the heel strap which we find helpful in alleviating chafe when wet and aiding in security during climbs.

The brand that's known for its classic three-strap design has yet again proven that simple is efficient. I’m a mountain runner, entrepreneur, mountain lover, and enthusiast for just about all things outdoors. A kids' version of the classic Teva sandal; very easy for kids to get on and off and comfortable to wear. The insoles are comfortable enough and dry quickly, but lose major points for how they deal with sweat. I wouldn’t suggest backpacking in them, but some folks might find them useful as camp shoes, though I prefer something even simpler (and lighter) for that scenario. I did find that there were a few bothersome pressure points, most notably on the forefoot near the pinky. This sandal is the newest update to the long-standing Hurricane XLT model, and we like the added traction and strap comfort.

This has nearly caused a couple of falls, so I’m lucky my second occupation is ninja, or I may have been caught off balance and taken a dive — and not the off-the-boat-into-the-lake kind of dive! Anyone who likes to do a lot of exploring on holiday knows that a bog-standard pair of flip flops or sandals won’t cut it – your feet just won’t thank you. The outsole features decently deep treads set in firm rubber, though it's not quite as sticky as we've seen on others—possibly because it is made from non-marking rubber (bonus if you plan to get nautical). Though we don't have any qualms with the original, the Hurricane XLT 2 provides a better experience due to some refreshing upgrades from the original. In warmer temps it seemed that sweat was a bit of an issue with the insole and my foot would slide around a bit, thus docking a point.I had a few moments of hesitation around camp while downclimbing some boulders to find the perfect spot for lunch, but traction was excellent and the three-point strap system kept me secure. It’s sprinkled with lakes, which provided an opportunity to accurately test the water capabilities of the Hurricane XLT 2. We gave the iconic Hurricane XLT a fresh comfort upgrade, outfitting it with soft heel-strap padding and a new, modern sole featuring even better traction than ever before. Not only is it stylish, but it performed well across the board and won't cut into your summer budget like some of the high-end models. The Teva Hurricane XLT 2 sandals won’t break the bank, will perform in almost every scenario, and do their best to distance you from that AARP card.

Because we feel that other models are more suited to extended use or precision control, we trimmed some points off the Hurricane's versatility rating. com doesn’t give footwear a Pick due to the subjectivity of individual people’s feet, the Teva Hurricane XLT 2 sandals are right at home with any Day Hiker, Car Camper, Urban Hiker. After paddling around for about thirty minutes I’d then hop out at the nearest shoreline and hike over to the next lake. During our time in the Grand Mesa, I racked up miles while cruising hiking trails to find a specific spot to use my fly rod, used the Hurricane XLT 2 as my primary shoes for packrafting — a real tricky sport for most footwear — and they served as my “I have to pee and it’s the middle of the night and I don’t want to put on real shoes! From light hiking to packrafting to urban walks to casual camp shoes, they have handled my multi-varied life with style (if you dig their style), grace, and sometimes wool socks. If you're more comfortable in shoes without significant heel drop, we recommend trying the Bedrock Cairn Adventure. The other straps could use a touch more padding and softer feel, but overall didn’t cause any issues (and I think they need more padding only because the heel has it! We would've awarded the Hurricane more points for comfort if it weren't for the placement of the straps and buckles. A pair of hiking sandals is an excellent option if you would rather let your feet breathe than put them inside trainers all the time. Unlike my other Teva sandals, the ones I spent most of the heatwave that was last summer in, these ones have a moulded footbed designed to be more supportive for the foot and provide better comfort on the trail.

And the neoprene heel cushion is yet again appreciated for its enhanced grip to lock in your heel—especially in the water. Cuing up a patchwork of funky prints, this limited-edition sandal enlists upcycled webbing repurposed from previous seasons. Once the toe and heel straps are adjusted properly, you should only need to fiddle with one piece of velcro to get in or out of the sandal.

Review Policy: We do not accept payments or gifts from brands and vendors, and strive to provide unbiased, independent advice. While I wouldn’t use this sandal for trekking or heavy duty hiking, I found it was supportive when shouldering a light load and moving through easy-to-moderate terrain. I actually own a (now-defunct) pair of the original Hurricane XLTs, and was stoked to try see what kind of updates the line received. I want to inspire you to make the most of your time by encouraging you to try new things and have a good time on your journey through life.
