About this deal

Both in their last year of high school their paths finally crossed despite being in several classes together dating as far back as middle school. Dani has closed herself off from all of her friends after an incident last year; she’s definitely not looking for love. Dani provides an interesting balance to Prince’s passion for love as an incident after a party has left her traumatized and questioning who she can trust. It was also really smart for LaDelle to let Dani and Prince to both be supportive of each other with their passions to increase their connection with each other. Overall (and in spite of these distracting plot choices) it’s a necessary story for young teens on what is and isn’t a healthy relationship to maintain in one’s life as well as how valuable growth is.

Coupled with the friendship and relationship plots, these components provide plenty of depth and heart while there is still lots of humor, romance, and coming of age aspects that are relatable. She undergoes a lot of healing throughout the book, and I loved the way both Prince and Dani make each other stronger and grow together. Dani is healing from a previous sexual assault, and I liked seeing how Prince understands when she needs to take a step back from them. Summary: Hitch meets The Sun Is Also a Star in this witty and romantic teen novel about a self-professed teen love doctor with a popular radio segment who believes he can get a girl who hates all things romance to fall in love with him in only three dates. His character really hit home for me- it brought me back to my high school years when I didn’t want to go too far from home for college.

This book contains a wonderful romance that centers open communication and regular check-ins with boundaries. Dani has started to withdraw a bit from her peers, a fact her loving parents definitely recognize, yet they've been unable to get Dani to open up to them about what's going on.I had also hoped to link to a 2020 article from a librarian titled “It Matters if You’re Black or White: The Racism of YA Book Covers,” but sadly it does not seem to be available any longer. You can read more about the issue of featuring BIPOC characters on book covers in this wonderful article. Love Radio has all the fun rom-com moments, from the totally extra dates to meeting the parents to awkward bathroom moments met with grace and humility. We didn’t see growth from that side friend—just an entire book of him being a douche and a last minute switch during the resolution.

Dealing with a experience that was traumatic and then being able to come out of it to find what love can be like for real. If you’re looking for a sweet contemporary or are a fan of The Sun Is Also a Star, you might enjoy Love Radio! Prince balances school and his radio segment with being a caretaker for his mother who has MS, and I loved the way he maintains a positive attitude and never complains about this.a beautifully written novel that gives readers intimate first-person perspectives of both protagonists. Danielle having to work through her trauma and find healthy coping mechanisms was such a touching message. The Reader gets a front row seat not just to the exquisitely-adorable dates, but also to what's going on behind the scenes in both Prince and Dani's home lives. They are helping each other grow, encouraging themselves to dream bigger and wanting harder and yet it was still hard for me to believe that there was any love involved. She’s also struggling to explain to her parents why she hasn’t been hanging out with her friends because that would mean talking about the assault.
