The grain is excellent but you can ignore the rather weird dark knot feature at the center of the cup in the main picture, this is a class B unit so you won’t get that on retail units, they simply will not pass the QC. At the same time, the headphones do quickly become fatiguing and "in your face" at high volume levels due to the V-shapedness (that highly depends on the individual properties of a listener's ear though).

A bit long in the tooth, the Meze 99 Classics Gold certainly doesn’t shy away from catching eyes, but does it grab your ears, too?
