About this deal

This book isn’t going to be for everyone, but it is very original, action-packed, immersive and evocative. The relationship between Crowl, Spinoza, and the Custodian Navradaran is fraught with mistrust and wariness, but it is also a solid element of the novel, much like everything else. As Natalie and Gentry investigate, the Island Club uses a bus full of people to attack them—and they flee to the safety of the gang since no authorities arrive to help.

As a result, his stories don’t always fall into a specific genre, but will always maintain the style of a thriller. Sheriff Gentry, now the only one investigating the murders as the FBI has shown no interest, realizes he is being followed.

Or perhaps I was thinking about them just prior to falling asleep and a fragment had stayed with me until morning. Despite the hunger, despite the aging reflection in the mirror, despite the dark compulsion which had ruled our lives for so many years, I had not Fed.

I do not remember the purported cause of the quarrel, perhaps some deliberate misinterpretation of one of Charles's jokes. Well, when you’re talking an about extraordinary race of human beings who have evolved to have this Ability, as it’s referred to, and put in a 20th century context, the place you must start with, as Simmons does, are the Nazis and the horrors of the Holocaust primarily seen through his protagonist and Holocaust survivor, Dr. So, after the chess match, Saul is virtually alone with Willi (his servant, Reynolds is also there, as well as a drunk Harod). When these people are controlled to murder, it imparts those with the Ability to look and feel younger and more alive.

Killing from a distance, and by darkly manipulative proxy, they are people with the psychic ability to 'use' humans: read their minds, subjugate them to their wills, experience through their senses, feed off their emotions, force them to acts of unspeakable aggression. And of course, Willi is a Nazi, so he’s anti-Semitic referring all kinds of ways to Saul as his “little Jew” and his pawn. The characters through out the novel are fantastic and for the most part a lot of fun to read about.

Across multiple timelines, the novel mostly follows two groups of amoral people in 1980, some with aspirations of world domination, as their clashing involves a group of investigators. Eventually, all is revealed, but you do need to stick with it to begin with until it shakes itself out. As he follows a blood-soaked trail he uncovers a chain of crimes linked to the most powerful figures in the country - influential enemies who will stop at nothing to remove those who stand in their way. Caught behind the lines of Hitler's Final Solution, Saul Laski is one of the multitudes destined to die in the notorious Chelmno extermination camp. But all in all, The Carrion Throne is a great start to a new series, full of exciting new characters and situations that I’m very eager to learn more about.Again, if you’ve read Dan Abnett’s Eisenhorn and Ravenor, or even Ben Counter’s Grey Knights, then this is the novel for you. Sooo I have resolved after three very long, very bad books, that I will never complete a bad book if I'm just really not feeling it. The day after I met Nina at Cousin Celia’s June Ball, the four of us were taking a hired boat up the Cooper River for a picnic on Daniel Island. He stood up, walked to the window, turned a straight-backed old chair around and straddled it, arms folded.
