About this deal

She’ll build cards and gain points in a way that mimics a real player very well, but she doesn’t react to other player’s decisions. Mistwood also includes additional player meeples: spiders, stoats, pigs, and butterflies, which are unfortunately reused from My Lil’ Everdell. The back of the box makes it obvious that it is an expansion to the base game and shows the new components and lists the various modules that are included (Figure 2). These come in two variants; seasonal plots which have an ongoing effect throughout the current season and impose some form of restriction and one-time plots which as the name implies activate once when drawn from the associated card deck.

In my review, I concluded that although the included solo mode was perfectly serviceable from a mechanical perspective I was still hesitant to recommend the game exclusively for solitaire play. A significant reason behind the charm that embodies Everdell is a direct result of the world that Bosley has created and Mistwood proves that he is still on top of his game when it comes to depicting the toiling and brave anthropomorphic inhabitants of the Everdell realm. The fact that there are 13 personality cards, each with its own unique flavor and characteristics, makes for a very varied solo opponent in terms of how they behave.

Early stages of play might see her deploy one of her minions, known as spiderlings, to occupy a worker placement spot on the main board which prohibits you from gathering resources again much like when playing Everdell multiplayer. Therefore, it’s a good idea to keep cards and resources ready for when Nightweave passes for season particularly with the plots.

I’ve read the reviews and see some videos but I’d love to hear some anecdotal feedback on people’s experiences with the game, pros/ cons, etc. Similarly, there’s the Corrin Evertail module that chronicles the life and adventures of the legendary founder of Everdell through a series of interlocking critters and location cards! I didn’t really enjoy the base game solo mode because it felt like I wasn’t playing the game in the same way as the multiplayer experience, and this completely rectifies that. The new cards are the same quality as the base game with the same high-quality artwork for the cards added to the main deck (Figures 4 + 5).

Nightweave may also claim events using their card actions so it is always wise to grab these in the middle of a round if this is something you are focusing your game on. The box cover makes it look like an epic adventure where you (and potentially a friend) face off against Nightweave, but all that really happens is Nightweave is another player playing the base game of Everdell. You won’t always know what Nightweave is about to do, so there’s a surprise element, but for me, part of the fun in playing against bots is trying to figure out how I can use their scripts to work against them. Plots, plans and personalities increase the replayability of the solo mode but also add complexity adding more for you to consider on potentially both turns for you and the bot. Unlike the more long-term effects of the plan cards, plots are triggered when Nightweave takes the prepare-for-season action. That’s right, the solo opponent in Mistwood also adheres to the shifting nature of the seasons the same way as when playing a multiplayer game of Everdell!

At the end of the game any achievement cards that were collected (by modules) will be played into their city along with seeing if any one remaining basic event can be achieved and added to their victory point pile. Therefore, it might come as a surprise to learn that since my review I’ve solo played Everdell in excess of 100 times squaring off against the cantankerous old rodent known as Rugwort to the point that the game has become the board game equivalent of comfort food. There are 3 possible modules that you can add to Nightweave to change up the gameplay, personalities, plans and plots. If you were ever to hand cards to Nightweave they are shuffled into their hand and they receive a victory point for each (resources also give a victory points instead of being collected by Nightweave). When playing with plots and ploys they will sometimes offer you the opportunity to foil them by paying resources and cards which most of the time you want to do.
