This eraser gently crumbles as you use it and gently removes the outer surface of paper, taking inscriptions and library stamps with it. Used gently it will appear as though the inscription has just disappeared with only slight, barely noticeable abrasion to the paper surface. Older ink erasers are therefore small knives designed to scrape off the top few microns of a sheet of paper, removing the ink that had penetrated. Ink, however readily penetrates the fibers of most papers and is therefore more difficult to extract by mechanical action. They rely on abrasive power that removes some of the fibres of paper or other surface to be effective.
