About this deal

A dark and revealing examination of how an innocent boy grows up to be a tyrant - a new twist on an old legend - Books of Doom is a sweeping epic of tragedy, madness and destiny! In retrospect, this makes perfect sense because although it would appeal to Doom's ego to have his biography published there is also that part of him that prefers to zealously guard his privacy. In the opening chapter set during Doom’s youth the varied seasons experienced by a wandering gypsy community are beautifully rendered, as are the picture postcard European locations, packed with ornate 18 th century architecture, and grandeur of the Himalayas.

We also get a brief intro to Victor's future rival Reed Richards who from his perspective is one of the people that left such a mark on the tyrants life. Reed Richards has a bit of a role early on, but it doesn’t really amount to much aside from confirming they knew each other in the college years. Even the whole deal with the demon, but it feels as if this story suffers from lack of freedom in storytelling. El dibujo de Raimondi no está mal, pero es el típico dibujo dosmilero que tampoco me dice gran cosa, igual que las tintas y el color.

He challenges us in our beliefs of who and what we think of situations and then shows us there's more to the story than we know. With the phenomenal art team of Pablo Raimondi and Mark Farmer, you will witness Doom's life from his earliest moments to the day he took the throne of Latveria. One night, she was manipulated by a demon and filled with a thirst for vengeance on the Baron's men, who constantly tormented their band of gypsies. His goals and ambitions, as portrayed in this book, set him truly in a league of his own among other Marvel super-villains.

Welcome to The Critical Eye, a blog filled with an ever-growing number (2900+) of blurbs about movies, music, books and other fun things.I am hoping some day we will get a real well done film version of the character and hopefully the film makers will take inspiration from this well told origin. but I just didn't connect with it enough to rank it higher than that, and the art didn't blow me away. He travels to America where he meets Reed Richards and has his unfortunate lab accident, providing him with physical scars to match the emotional ones. The insides of the book were done by Pablo Raimondi, who you might remember from X-Factor (and if you don’t, shame on you). Featuring the Latverian ruler's first battle with the accursed Reed Richards and his Fantastic Four - and their most epic clashes since!

Sure, this may not be the case EVERYWHERE, but it only came out a few years ago, and I’ll be honest when I say I don’t even remember seeing it on shelves. And for long-time fans of the Fantastic Four, we get to see how their greatest nemesis gets into the Darth Vader-type suit and finally goes from Victor von Doom to Dr Doom. The way Brubaker explains and makes the doombot oblivious that Doom succeded in freeing his mother's soul (with Dr Strange) almost help to localize in Doom's timeline the creation of this doombot. I think it is more satisfying, and true to Doom's character, to have him killing the King personally in Brubakers enhanced version. The art is decent, and definitely focuses on Victor and his transformation to Doctor (funny enough, he never actually earned that degree, because he was booted after the experiment which left his face (and psyche) scarred).

We will never knowingly harvest your data beyond the cookies needed for smooth running of the site, and wouldn't dream of passing it anywhere. The many people that Doom encountered in his life are perfectly-suited to give their brief but telling perspectives on the man behind that mask. Brubaker takes all these facets of a fascinating personality and brings his own facility for speech patterns to create one hell of a ride through his past. Every page is an absolutely treat for the eyes as Pablo masterfully brings to life Brubaker’s words with stunning acclaim. He created weapons that he used to defend the gypsies from the Baron's men, and became the leader of the gypsy clan at age 16. Taking another person's life for the first time traumatized Victor, and when a representative of the American military came to their gypsy camp one day and offered him a scholarship in America in exchange for working for them, Victor eagerly accepted. And he has shown in Doom and Cap that he has a love and respect for the history of Marvel's characters. But while in its telling Brubaker's story becomes a "true" origin for Doom, I don't know if it is really necessary. Ultimately it is Victor's fears and nightmares from his past that push him down the dark path he chooses to walk.
