Description
Gin doesn't claim to have invented this way of eating, but she has certainly but it into a format that it easy and entertaining to read. Anytime an author of a book offering dietary advice repeatedly reminds you that they are not a doctor or a nutritionist and that they aren’t qualified to give advice but will be more than happy to refer you to books that actually are written by qualified professionals, you should probably just move on. This book introduced me to an eating lifestyle that doesn't leave me feeling deprived or guilty for indulging. Intermittent fasting not only facilitates weight loss, but also increased health and a sense of well-being. And that I don't feel guilty (like I ruined my diet) when I eat a piece of cheesecake inside my eating window.
I really appreciate different appendixes in the back of the book which includes Gin personal story, books she read that helped her, 30 journal prompts she provides at the end of the book as well as testimonials from people who have had success with IF. She also explained the biology behind how it all works and provided extensive sources, referring readers to other books so that she could give a summary without bogging this book down with technical details. Even though it is not restrictive like most diet plans, you will still find it harder to lose weight if you eat lots of highly processed, unhealthy foods.
In your first 28 days, you won’t necessarily see big results yet as your body is still adjusting, but if you do it consistently and rightfully, expect to see your desired results in no time. I'm amazed how much energy I had - green tea is key for me to keep my energy levels and hunger at bay for my fasting times. By following the Delay, Don't Deny formula, I've learned how to listen better to the needs of my body and am thrilled to share that 16-weeks into this new lifestyle, I've already lost 20 pounds. I've had weight, pain, insulin and blood glucose issues for 12 years, starting in my first pregnancy.
Gin is co-host of The Intermittent Fasting Podcast with fellow author and intermittent faster, Melanie Avalon. I mostly eat whole foods and organic but I can't say I do it exclusively (as I don't always eat at home. This is really not a good place to learn how to do IF, or eating healthy for that matter - and that’s maybe one of the most annoying points of my critics here - she has found a way to eat all the rubbish she wants, without gaining weight. com to connect with Laurie Lewis, who is an experienced IF coach who follows Delay, Don't Deny ® Intermittent Fasting methodology in her work with clients. Yes - other books probably cover the science of it more thoroughly but this has enough info about the benefits for me.this is funny considering that a lot of the book is her saying, "this is what worked for me," while absolutely slamming people who don't follow her methods of fasting. If you are really interested in benefits of intermittent fasting, read The Obesity Code or the Circadian Clock. i bought it as i had read a book by two people who had successfully used the 19/5 time restricted eating (TRE) to lose a lot of weight and, more importantly, maintain their weight loss.
Anyway, the point of this post, is to tell you that I always fasted with heavy cream in my coffee, bullet proof coffee, and sometimes homemade bone broth, which unbeknownst to me made my fasts extremely difficult. I am still just within my first week of IF and haven't cut out the morning creamer in my coffee- that starts tomorrow! If you are more interested in a personal testimonial and don’t mind amateurish writing with obnoxious punctuation, then go for it.I have seen these links in footnotes of other books, but never considered reading them myself until the author suggested it. My thoughts: This is my 4th book by Gin Stephens and it was just as good as the others but the shortest. What I really liked was how Gin emphasized that this is actually a lifestyle change; any weight loss or benefits you experience WILL go away if you revert back to old habits completely. As a 'questioner' in the Gretchen Rubin "The Four Tendencies" framework I usually only listen to experts with credentials, or other credible sources like WireCutter or Consumer Reports -- People and organizations that are reliably credible.
