About this deal
With a tight cardioid polar pattern, the SR314 is imbued with levels of sound isolation not found in other microphones.
Off-axis rejection is good throughout the frequency range, and any spill that is captured sounds natural. This is a by-product of the mic’s extended low-frequency response and can be held in check by using a highpass filter or a foam windscreen (in some cases, I opted for the windscreen). This high-definition microphone features an exceptionally flat 20Hz to 30kHz frequency response, low handling noise, and a uniform cardioid polar pattern. It presents vocals with a natural, balanced response and maintains articulation without ever sounding strident. The tight cardioid polar pattern provides consistent frequency response to 90º off-axis, with extreme attenuation of off-axis sound sources beyond 90º and maximum rejection at 180º.
This microphone was designed as a live vocals microphone, but works very well for live-streaming, podcasting, and voice over work. At that point, you're really looking at the least-worst sonic result captured, whilst getting the performance. After using the SR40V wired and wireless versions for so many years and then trying the 314 I was like…WOW! Unless you go big enough, any problem is the sound engineer, any success is the musicians or the gear. For a singer going to all kinds of venues, having your own phantom power supply and a high-quality lead that you trust is a good idea if you're gonna use a condenser mic imo. It sounds very good and is very tonally balanced; it's honestly amazing for the money, but in almost every situation there is a better mic.
