It mostly develops because they kept on having great sex together, and Isolde couldn’t endure being apart from Adrian because of the sex, not because she cared that much about him. Together, they must navigate treacherous lands, vanquish malevolent enemies, and confront their own inner demons to forge a future of peace and love.

Because apparently that is all my mood reader will allow me to read since January… I am starting to think it’s taking revenge on me for all the years I hadn’t warmed up to the genre.

Though I was on the fence with Isolde’s character (come to that later), she didn’t ask questions incessantly and I thought the way we learned about Cordova’s true history alongside her felt pretty organic. Ancient prophecies and vengeful deities threaten to tear them apart and bring chaos to their kingdom. I very much expected the vampire porn this book has to deliver (why else do you think I'm reading this? Isolde plans on getting close enough to him to find a way to finally end his life, but as she travels with him and spends time in the red palace, she comes to realize (of course), that there is more to their land’s history than what she was told, and that Adrian is not simply a bloodthirsty monster.

All of her driven side disappears and instead, we got a whining teenager facing mean girls and bullies.
