About this deal

Where as for self study I'd just go with Tae Kim's Guide to Learning Japanese as I think that's better nowadays. So I dont like Minna no Nihongo, because it really doesn’t have any grammatical explanation, just examples, and all in japanese; i am okay with the japanese, but you know, still no explanation.

Please use these CDs, along with the CD accompanying the Main Text (containing the Conversations and Exercises found in the main texts), for instruction in class and for student practice. If you have any specific questions (and I might have missed them, as I couldn't read that all), don't hesitate to ask. Like some people have mentioned, Genki is meant for classroom settings and can be a bit disorganized, but these videos help a lot with clarifying grammar points. I kind of wished there was some more workbooks for listening that didn't fall into the "practise for the JLPT Listening section". I dislike that it continues to teach you verbs in -masu form as the vocabulary rather than dictionary form after teaching you about plain form, conjugating ‘te’ and ‘ta’ forms etc.It was a while ago, so I don’t remember well, but the levels felt quite similar, both MNN and Genki teach about the same basic grammar. On the other hand, Genki features only one workbook per textbook and one Answer Key volume for both textbooks. Since it was first published in 1998, Minna no Nihongo has been a long-selling and classic textbook for both teachers and learners of Japanese alike. The series also includes books on reading and listening comprehension and kanji learning, as well as audio materials.

I do agree with my teachers who said that it might have been easier if the books had started with the dictionary form right away - you only learn it in lesson twenty or so, and even then, the vocabulary lists stick to the 'masu' form.I studied this book along with a workbook, which had exercises in it to work out based on the lessons found in this book.

Since my office caters to Japanese clients, I was lucky enough to get free Japanese classes from a Japanese teacher (Sensei). Again, Genki is more concise while the Minna no Nihongo series offers you a whole variety of materials to study, practice, and specialize. I have a question for those of you who have studied with Minna no Nihongo, and especially for those who have also used Genki and/or Japanese for Busy People. They're not just Japanese grammar books: each lesson features a situation with a dialogue that makes you go through new grammar points, vocabulary, and kanji while practicing reading and listening comprehension and doing some writing as well. And for learners without a CD player, an App is available to hear the audio content on smartphones or tablets. While this book is not meant as a study aid for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, upon completing the book, the student is roughly at the N5 level of the Test. I think the intention of the book is to provide learning material along side with a real life teacher class.

But actually, that’s one of the things I want… (perhaps)… with Genki, it seems like the tasks are designed for partner work… but too often… they mix up too many target language points without clarity… (i. The series is pretty established (like more than 20 years ago), but doesn’t mean it will be better than Genki. Please go to " User Registration" in the bar above to register your name, e-mail address and postal address. I just discovered that, aside from the main Japanese language volume and the corresponding English language translation/explanation book I already have, there are many supplemental volumes per level. vielen Dank für Deinen Kommentar :) Ich glaube gerate, wenn man alleine lernt, ist Minna no Nihonga ziemlich hartes Brot. You can purchase them all here, either separately or as a massive expensive set (this is just the first half of the elementary level! Through the task-based exercises (listening for necessary information in dialogues, interviews, reports, etc. However, it would be a mistake to think that it is harder to study using Minna no Nihongo rather than Genki: the approach is different. A third volume in the series for the Chukyu (Intermediate) level goes by the name An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese without bearing the name Genki. I don’t have Minna, but my understanding is that it has less romanization and is more heavily written in Japanese.
