About this deal

Anna has experienced all aspects of the restaurant industry over the last 20 years, and brings all that experience, plus a pinch of Irish know-how, to the Ready Steady Cook kitchen. Anna Haugh followed in the footsteps of Anthony Worral Thompson and Ainsley Harriot by joining the line-up of Ready Steady Cook. When I was about 19 and doing my professional cookery course as a young commis on Cathal Brugha Street in Dublin, my parents bought me Jamie Oliver’s Italian cookbook, The Naked Chef. Anna has cooked professionally in many cities around the world, working with Derry Clarke, Philip Howard, Shane Osborn, and Gordon Ramsay, among others. simple, homey, accessible, and delicious recipes from a modern Irish kitchen, by standout young chef Anna Haugh.

She then moved to London where she worked with Shane Osborne at Pied a Terre, Philip Howard at The Square and for the Gordon Ramsay Group. The book also features some truly inspirational stories directly from those who Peter McVerry has helped out of homelessness. Pat Doyle , CEO of Peter McVerry Trust said, “Peter McVerry Trust is honoured to be part of this fantastic project. Launched in partnership with Project Screen by Prenetics, Recipes for Heroes contains an eclectic mix of more than 20 ‘home-cook suitable’ dishes from some of the UK’s top chefs, including Anna Haugh (Myrtle); Sally Abé (The Harwood Arms); Adam Handling (Frog by Adam Handling); Eduardo Pellicano (Mãos); and Jeremy Chan (Ikoyi). As all areas of the UK undergo lockdowns, and Covid cases spike in the capital, demand for these meals is more imperative than ever before, Hospitality for Heroes says. After studying at Dublin Food school, Anna began her career working at L'Ecrivain with Derry Clarke. Many of us count ourselves fortunate to be able to put a homecooked meal on our own table to eat with family and friends. I’ve known Anna for a good few years now and the one thing that always strikes me is that she has all the skill and finesse of a truly great restaurant chef, but the heart and soul of a generous host and exceptional home cook. Recipes for Heroes - which will be made available to donors online or in hardback - will raise the funds needed to ensure that Hospitality for Heroes is able to continue to support NHS frontline workers.

We are good at logistics and planning and we are generous because our reason for being is to feed and take care of people. In a 2015 interview with The Irish Independent, she revealed that she has previously separated from her husband of 13 years, explaining that not having children helped her fully commit to the rigours required of a career in fine dining. Anna Haugh was born in Dublin in the 80s, and has trained and worked as a professional chef for 20 years.

These are all simple, hearty comforting dishes, whether it is the smoked ham and leek pie that hotelier and food producer Olivia Duff cooked for a visiting Ukrainian family or the mac ‘n’ cheese that Jess Murphy’s Mum makes when she visits Galway from New Zealand. The comfort zone has never been a space that JP McMahon likes to dwell in and is planning Food On the Edge 2021.

Perhaps what I love most about this book and all of Anna's work is how much she showcases the brilliance and variety of Irish cooking: an entire world of dishes that are comfortingly familiar but still fresh and exciting. So I was so reassured that in the 10 Minutes Challenge the pressure was really up – it was hard work!
