About this deal

Far from a dedicated retiree coming back for “one last job for queen and country,” Roland King has realized that the system he has upheld hasn’t just betrayed him, it has betrayed everyone.

The plot is, of course, nonsense, but the art and pure wackiness more than make up for any gaps in logical storytelling. The very average artwork, the stupid characters, the reductive politics that lead nobody anywhere – all this smacks of Millar treading water yet again. I hated Wanted, both the film and the comic, despised Nemesis, was bored by Kick-Ass, and felt generally let down by most of his DC work. King of Spies invests in the validity of King's anger far more than Skyfall did with Silva, depicting him as a hero on a righteous quest.I love stories about an old gun-fighter back for one last job and this is the granddaddy of them all. And worst of all, a disturbingly recent phenomenon: Strip-mining older-better stories of his own to tell a tale that feels like he dashed it off in a single weekend? Even with all its warts, King of Spies TPB ends on a somber note, reminding readers that to err is human and to forgive is not divine but also a liberating experience.

He’s divorced, estranged from his son, forgotten by his country, and worst of all, he has time to sit and think. Also, his villains apparently have to spout dialogue that sounds like it could have been lifted from whatever the 1990 equivalent of 4chan was. MOTHERS OF REVOLUTION,’ CONCLUSION The war, which not long ago was everything, now seems insignificant in the face of the unimaginable destructive power of the stone. The issue starts at a break neck pace, provides you a very Sean Connery 007 vibe, but it is so much more"a British agent that simply has decided the establishment is not all that it is cracked up to be.While he may be styled after James Bond, Roland’s trajectory in King of Spies is placing him squarely in the role of Raoul Silva to someone else’s 007. In King of Spies, prize-winning journalist and bestselling author of Escape From Camp 14, Blaine Harden, reveals one of the most astonishing – and previously untold – spy stories of the twentieth century. The only thing of partial merit to be found in this comic was its art, everything else was beyond poor. Contradictory wanking over free-range superpower stuff so you can then pillory free-range superpower stuff? The series is also written by Mark Millar, who we know is no stranger to the spy genre due to his successful The Secret Service: Kingsman franchise.

Roland King from King of Spies had no such major betrayal over the course of his career, effectively coded as a retired James Bond. Realizing that the world has stayed the same at the expense of his own life and wellbeing, Roland finally has his Raoul Silva moment, becoming determined to smash the system, with motivations rooted in the dreaded question everyone comes to ask at some point or another - “Was it really worth it? At the same time I really enjoyed his run through Marvel’s Ultimate universe, with a few notable exceptions (see above). While Pierce Brosnan never got a proper ending to his time as James Bond on the big screen, Mark Millar's King of Spies is a perfect fit for the actor to once again play the world’s greatest spy for one final mission.
