About this deal

The banter between Naomi and her best friend Will was hilarious and there were some particularly great one liners that I’ll have to use at some point. If Naomi should've been less whiny, Will should've realized that amnesia means you can't remember things. I fell in love with them and my mind is reeling, wondering what will become of them and if they move on, find happiness, and heal. Because I was predisposed to notice Tegoshi (Mirai Hasegawa), he didn't feel invisible to me which might have been the case to other viewers who felt like Mirai Hasegawa didn't have much of an impact. From the author of Elsewhere and the Birthright trilogy, Gabrielle Zevin's Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac is an imaginative YA novel all about love and second chances.

When her mother arrives in the hospital, Naomi asks her what happened to cause the divorce, and her mother admits that she got pregnant with a former high school friend's baby, and left Naomi and her father to move to the city.

Sie schneidet ihre Haare, verlässt ihren Freund und findet wieder Gemeinsamkeiten mit einer alten Freundin. I, on the other hand, would TOTALLY FREAK OUT and stare at old pictures all day (except the ones with bad hair, cos I’m all about embracing the silver lining of amnesia). She is knocked unconscious, and when she comes to she is being wheeled into an ambulance and hears an unfamiliar voice telling the paramedics that he is her boyfriend. Sarah lives in Austin, and believes there is no such thing as a guilty pleasure, which is part of why she started FYA in 2009.

I became a fan of Yuya Tegoshi just yesterday, then I watched the movie this morning because I know that he was part of it. However, the director decided to move the production to Japan, and changed the high school setting of the novel to an international school for the film. Instead it was full of teen angst, choosing between three different guys, and trying to regain memory.Naomi’s voice is so real, so achingly honest, that I wanted to give her a hug like every ten minutes. It’s rare for books in this genre to have all of the hotness with none of the cheese, and Amnesiac is a shining example of how to portray teen romance in a legitimate, raw, and completely compelling fashion. You forget your junior class schedule and where you used to sit and your best friend's home phone number and the lyrics to that song you must have played a million times.

I don't always agree the main characters decisions, or the way she acts, but the important part is that I understand why she does everything and that she feels like a real life flawed person. First of all, if you bought this book thinking it's a good, teen romance, I would say stop right there! When she eventually does remember who she is she has to face moving on with the troubles she had previously forgotten, and decide what she is going to do with her life now that she has a fresh start. Zevin weaves the tale of Naomi’s self discovery with extraordinary skill and creates characters that are so alive, I feel like I know them and experienced the events of this story right along with them as opposed to merely reading about them.

Approximately 50 years in the future, New York is a ruined city where goods are rationed and chocolate is illegal. All I know is that if I ever acted like her when I was a teenager, I would've gotten my ass kicked by everyone I love.
