It’s so quiet, that you don’t hear it running – ideal if you want to it on overnight without having your sleep disturbed. Within six hours both units had pulled over a gallon of water each out of the air and dropped the house humidity almost 10%.

I love knowing that the unit will dehumidify if my house gets high humidity but also won't overflow if it gets full. I think the area I have it in is about 1900 SF so I am using a second dehumidifier of a different brand. Onboard function buttons include a Power button, up and down arrow buttons for setting a target humidity level, a Fan Speed button (Low, High), and a Timer button. The Midea Cube is a two-piece system that includes a water tank bucket and the actual dehumidifier unit.

I was in the middle of testing the Midea 20 pint cube dehumidifier, and since my basement was relatively unscathed, I lent it to my friend to help dry out his home. Despite it being 16kg, it’s extremely portable, thanks to the included castor wheels, and if you need to carry it to another room or between floors, there’s a pull-up handle.

It’s really easy to use, too – there are no settings to get used to, just one simple button to switch it on and get it to work. There are a few things to keep in mind while you’re trying to decide, such as the size of your home, whether you need dedicated settings such as laundry mode, and even whether you want one with a built-in air filter, which can help to remove irritants from the air, leaving you breathing easier. The base comes with casters in case you want to wheel them around a hard floor; may make it easy to wheel one over to a step-in shower for emptying if you don't want to lug 40 pounds of water by the handle. Plus, it’s very economical, as it has a hydrophilic coating that can collect up to 40 per cent more water without using any extra power.

Really the only suggestion I could make as an improvement would be to add caster wheels to the bottom and perhaps a retractable power cord like some vacuums have. Plus, there’s an automatic switch-off function, so there’s no need to worry if you leave it running when you’re not around.
