About this deal

Lots of references to superheroes but you can enjoy the book without having extensive knowledge of this genre, although it’s frustrating that the reference to ‘14 fingers’ is never fully explained? I would recommend the book to year eights and under as there are some hard word to read but most of the words are textbook. While he’s gone, an alien gives his undeserving, never-read-a-comic-in-his-life brother superpowers, then tells him to save the universe.

David Solomons debut children s book is lip-twitchingly funny and clips along thanks to a super-plot and a cast packed with special (if unusual) powers. In addition to his acclaimed children's fiction, David Solomons has been writing screenplays for many years - his first feature film was an adaptation of Five Children and It, starring Kenneth Branagh and Eddie Izzard. His geeky brother Zack gets to be world-saving Star Lad instead, but Luke has his race-against-time moment when Zack is kidnapped. The two are going to have to team up if they’re to save Bromley (and the world) from certain disaster. He was born in Glasgow and now lives in Dorset with his wife, the novelist Natasha Solomons, their son Luke and their daughter, Lara. my most favorite part was when Luke needs a wee but when he comes back and realises his brother Zack is a super hero he is devastated that it wasn't him. However, when Zack is kidnapped by his arch-nemesis, it is Luke and his friends who come to the rescue. Fast-moving, very funny, and gleefully mining the comic potential of the superhero genre, this is an inventive story that handles the combined frustrations and affections of sibling relationships with sensitivity.

If you had spent most of your 11 years on earth devouring comics and knew all there was to know about superheroes, their powers and arch enemies, wouldn t you be annoyed if your Maths nerd of an older brother was chosen to join their ranks?Be careful, though - there's a danger of actual tears and serious stomach-hurt from doubling-over with laughter. Rory Rooney is unremarkable in almost everything, apart from his capacity to attract the attention of the school bully. I also loved the part near the front when Luke needs a wee and he goes but whilst he is there Zack becomes a superhero.

It's also the perfect next step for readers who may have loved the Baby Aliens series and want to up their reading game. This is a good book however i think that i would have enjoyed it more if there was a bit more action and mystery. There are many other funny things about this book but this is just one thing you will enjoy about it.
