About this deal

But like others, I've got a couple of pairs of Sealskinz that I use for running in the winter (I 'normal' pair and a merino pair).

Injinji toe socks - the thin liner socks - go well under any sock at any time of year, though the Dexshells are extremely comfortable by themselves - wore them yesterday on Fairfield! Not at all breathable, so probably not a good alternative to Sealskinz for more than a few hours at a time - they get a bit minging inside if you wear them all day long, especially while working hard. Only ever bought a pair once for mountain biking and they were rubbish - but they were a very early incarnation that were bulky and poorly shaped. We prefer ordinary socks in warm weather because they breath better, but if you like dry feet all year or sail in a cool water area, the thinner waterproof versions may be for you. After walking through brush and around abandoned irrigation canals for two hours, I was just about to get back on the main trail when I came up to the edge of a beaver pond. I put on some waterproof Keen shoes to shovel the walk, but other than those those few trips outside I just stayed inside where my feet were well and truly dry.

The increased comfort of having dry feet all the time made a big difference to the pleasure of my trips. Standing in a massive puddle at 6 degrees celsius in the rain will definitely get you a few odd looks. Canvas dodgers and biminis are the hallmark of a cruising yacht, keeping the sun at bay and allowing the crew to "dodge" the worst of the weather. I also have an older style of Vivobarefoot waterproof shoes, not the Trail Freak but probably its predecessor, and they give me YOOOGE blisters on my heels. Brought the oh some for Xmas, she has a leak in one boot and small feet so water often comes over the top, especially in bog and crossing rivers.I hardly ever wear boots any more, and have completed 50+ mile hikes multi-day hikes in my beloved Merrells. Merino is a natural alternative to many of the synthetic high-performance materials that plague the cycling industry.
