About this deal

but Callahan Kane was the one to get be through those books. he was my ray of sunshine. my guiding light. he provided the snark and humour. he had more personality in his pinky than both of his brothers combined. so i desperately wanted his book. i craved it but i was simultaneously terrified to read this in case it really was gonna flop like it’s predecessors and let me down... clearly that didn’t happen. sorry to my baby Cal for ever doubting him, ily and know you’d never betray me like that. So much worse than what I expected. Y'all lied to me with this one. But anyway, welcome to a realistic ranty review. My hand clutching the piping bag tightens. A blob of icing drops on to the half-finished cupcake, ruining my design. Their banter, tension and angst was *chef’s kiss*. The second chance, childhood friends to lovers, and small town really did it for me. I didn’t expect this book to be so emotional and for me to be crying multiple times throughout the book but the ending made all the heartbreak worth it. Look, I know I’m in the minority here, but I didn't enjoy this book as I had hoped. I guess the story isn’t bad by any means. In fact, I enjoyed it whenever Cami showed up. She was just so adorable, and I loved her relationship with her mom and Cal. Also, I really commend Lauren Asher writing about heavy topics such as addiction and emotional abuse. And I do think these aspects were explored relatively well. However, I had quite a few issues with the story:

Swears jar!” Cal sifts through his wallet and hands her a fifty-dollar bill. Cami’s brow rises. “What? I ran out of hundreds yesterday.” First all can we talk about how I love how the book touched on love and struggling with an addiction. I think it can help someone who has either dealt with this in life or has someone who's struggling with an addiction and how they can cope. As the three of them are forced to play house, they fall into a routine and it would be easy for Lana and Cal to imagine a life together but the looming end of the summer and Cal leaving is one of the things that has Lana holding onto any sense of letting herself fall again for the man who so obviously wants to become someone who is worthy of her time. Cal, was supposed to be the charming one out of the brothers. But all his charm has been reduced to 1 on the scale of 10 in this book. But he is more likable than Alana, he does try hard. We see him struggle with his own self and trying to live up to Alana's unrealistic expectations. He is at an all time low and it only slightly improves in about the last three chapters. One thing that irked me about him was he gossiped about everything and that too to Iris, who FYI was never there for him and continued to ignore him. The only happiness he got was from Cami. his recovery felt too easy, it happens extremely fast even tho majority of the book is him struggling w alcohol use. he should’ve gotten sober earlier on in the book, preferably he should’ve gone to rehab after he broke her mum’s vase.

callahan kane is a "mirrorball/this is me trying/champagne problems" character and if that's not enough to convince you to read this book, i don't know what is. Alana is an inspiration, she is fierce, protective, independent and yet has the biggest heart. I had a soft spot for Cal since book 1, and my love for him only grew after this book. he has these internal struggles but is so happy and appears to be easy going on the outside. his emotions were so real and raw and it just made my heart ache for him. you truly cannot help but root for him.

Now on to Lana... Omg, where do I even start with her. Certain parts of the book I really enjoyed Lana and love her personality, but at some moments and chapters I couldn't get with her and it also made me not want to finish the book. I get that Lana has trust issues and she doesn't want to trust Cal or let him in; even when he's trying his hardest to be the best and to be sober for her too. It gets to a point where you have to stop and think it through. Like when she eavesdropping (she doesn't mean to do it intentionally, it just happens) and she finds out about inheritance and the will. She shuts Cal all the way out and puts up this guard. Now I understand her reason for being mad and upset, but at the same time to understand what's going on you have to talk with your SO and understand why they're doing what they did. At times it made me feel like Lana doesn't want to trust Cal and she doesn't care for him like that. But towards the end of the book she finally let her guard down and let Cal in. NOTE NOTE: SHOULD YOU READ THIS SERIES? NO, read just this book. (I have given this thought before writing, believe it or not) As for the couple, it is so easy to love them. They are both hurt from their past and can’t let it go, but at the same, they can't stay away from each other. Even while they’re trying to shut down their feelings for each other and to put some distance between them, fearing for the worst, it’s impossible not to hope for them to get together—not when their chemistry and interactions always feel so light and natural. Their fears—mostly hers—and hesitations are totally comprehensible and fair—which led to some painful scenes, but also made it delightful to see the way they both worked hard and put effort in making things right this time. And Lana, as Cal calls her, is one of the strongest characters Lauren has written till the date. She’s an incredible woman, who’s so selfless, caring and loving, and that has been through a lot throughout her life. She’s an amazing person, who's willing to sacrifice herself to see the people she loves happy, especially when it comes to her daughter, Cami—who honestly, is a highlight and the star of the book. The mother-daughter relationship between them and how much they care for each other is beautiful. instead the story was so fleshed out here. LA sets up a conflict. we follow a thorough plot line from A to B, we know the goals of the characters and what motivates them. i found that the previous books were a bit incoherent and didn’t know what they wanted to be— Final Offer has more depth than i ever expected with undertones of loss and grief that i found to be poignantly done.Coming to the characters, this is the part where it frustrated me the most. I wanna cry just thinking about it. Wtf went wrong Ms Lauren?! Why do you write your characters especially FMCs in such an annoying manner?! Of all the stupid ways you could have phrased that… Embarrassment floods my cheeks pink. Cal’s laughter doesn’t help matters, only making my flush worse. Cal decides that it is finally time to get sober for himself and that he owes himself the changes that could come along with it. And, he decides that he would spend every last second of a sober life proving to Lana that he is the man that could give her and Cami a life filled with love.
