Something similar happens when Joey keeps rejecting Aoife, because he doesn’t want to hurt her and I could understand Joey’s reason so well and imo Joey had valid reasons for not wanting to get attached to another person. He has enough on his hands, he doesn’t need to care about another person. Aoife knew what she was doing when she keeps dating Pest Rice for fun until Joey was ready.
