About this deal

Modulation Mode allows you to set a value for each step that will send out an appropriate voltage from the CV Mod output, and it will send velocity or another Continuous Controller over MIDI. You can specify a linear or exponential curve to govern the rate of change from one modulation value to another from step to step, or have it jump to the next one. You can set a variation amount for randomising the value and a range to hem it in, giving it a nicely varied feel. While we're on the subject of controllers, the USB MIDI gives you MIDI in ports from the external MIDI in and SEQUENCER output, and ports for MIDI out MIDI out 1, out 2 and SEQ output too. With its powerful built-in Arpeggiator you can easily bring to life and create interesting patterns out of any of your soft plugins, analog or digital synths, for immediate inspiration.

At the heart of the SQ-64 lies a clear, easy-to-read OLD display screen, this serves to empower you with a comprehensive overview of your workflow at all times. The wide range of controls and connectivity on offer ensures that the sequencer will become a real asset to you and the centrepiece of any creative set-up. The flexibility it provides when manipulating external instruments allows you to focus on what's most important - making excellent music! The SQ-64 is Korg's first Sequencer since the SQ-1 - which came out the same time as the MS-20 mini and was a simple 8 step analog affair. The SQ-64 is an altogether different beast. You agree that the express obligations and warranties made by Korg in this Agreement are (so far as is permitted by law) in lieu of and to the exclusion of any other warranty, condition, term, undertaking or representation of any kind, express or implied, statutory or otherwise, relating to anything supplied or services provided under or in connection with this Agreement including (without limitation) any warranty as to the condition, quality, performance, merchantability or fitness for purpose of the Licensed Program and the Services or any part of them. You don't just get the SQ-64; you get an in-depth selection of software from the likes of iZotope, Skoove and Propellerhead - not to mention software synths from KORG themselves. This bundle provides you with even more music-making tools right out of the box! Flexible Connectivity Contents of owner’s manuals and content as found on korg.com may differ. Information on korg.com may be updated as necessary based on changes to the product specification, operating system, included contents, and so on. Additionally, owner’s manuals may be updated to reflect these and other changes with updated production of the product. The advantage of recording from external MIDI is that you can record unquantized, so setting a step length of 1/4 note (32, 16, 8, 4, triplets available) and having a pattern length of 64 steps gets you 16 bars unquantized recording which is cool, however there is no way to quantize a pattern after recording it, unless you go to each step and change the offset value for each one. The license created by this agreement is personal to you and you may not assign or otherwise transfer your rights or obligations under this agreement without the prior written consent of Korg.

Korg provides no warranty in relation to any Third Party Software supplied and all warranties whether express or implied as to the condition, quality, performance, merchantability or fitness for purpose of the Third Party Software or any part of the same are (in so far as may be permitted by law) hereby excluded. The sequencer has four modes called Gate, Pitch, Mod and Loop. Each mode comes with a slightly different set of four possible parameters displayed on the screen and accessed with the knobs. To access the relevant parameters for a step you have to hold the corresponding button down. It’s beautifully sleek, visually arresting and seems perfectly sized for overloaded desktops. Gate ModeThe joy of this sequencer is that as well as the basics like setting pitches, bridging notes and sliding notes, you have more advanced options to really make your music the way you want.

The hardware is great, high quality material and feel. The output set is also great with the choice of 5 or 10V output range for the CV and gate. plenty of connectors, two MIDI outs. You need a MIDI driver to connect it to your PC (it's 2022 come on... class compliant is the standard now...) Although it may be small, it is mighty! The SQ-64 will continually fuel your creative drive, allowing you to achieve the best results possible. With this in your set-up you'll be able to control and connect all of your favourite analog and digital gear from one convenient place. The sequencer guarantees that the most complex of performances will feel effortless.

Key Features

The SQ-64 comes with a diverse variety of music software from Izotope including “Ozone Elements” which lets you not only create songs but also master them using AI, “Skoove” which will help you improve your keyboard playing skills, “Reason Lite” DAW software, as well as software synths from Korg and other brands. If any part of this Agreement is found by a court of competent jurisdiction or other competent authority to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable then such part shall be severed from the remainder of this Agreement which will continue to be valid and enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by law. To dial in a note value you hold the step button. You’ll find space for eight notes for each step, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t seem to add more than the first note using the screen, buttons and knobs. It appears that chords can only be added and then edited by recording them in live. This feels like an oversight, because once the notes are there you can edit all of them, and it appears to me that the same function could just as easily be used to turn on extra notes. Once you have a chord on a step you can also transpose it and dial in some inversions. The CV output always gets the lowest note. As an early user of the SQ-64 these are things I’ve been calling out for and it’s so good to see them finally implemented. Still nothing on the strange per-note arpeggiator. It is a great sequencer, with lots of cool ideas and some awkward flaws. It looks like most of the flaws have been dealt with. The workflow on the SQ‑64 is perhaps more methodical than spontaneous, but having all 64 notes spread out in front of you makes it easy to follow a plan. It’s true that note entry via button holding and turning a single knob is not as immediate as a knob‑per‑step, but it’s really a question of which workflow you prefer.

A very decent upgrade with genuinely pro features, that cements its position in the top handful of mini keyboard controllers available. Where there is a major let down is the firmware. Here are the major faults and the reasons why I returned it: Collection and delivery costs are included for the first 2 years in the event of an item becoming faulty Korg may on occasions supply software programs, data files and/or documentation belonging to a third party or parties (hereinafter collectively referred to as “Third Party Software”). Dedicated mode where all 64 buttons are set to note values and four banks of knobs can be assigned to controllers - though this editing is not yet possible, there is an editor on the way, so it will certainly be of use to many, it's of limited use right now.Powered through USB or external 9V DC adaptor, a choice of power options offer both versatility and flexibility. a) to Korg at its own expense using all reasonable endeavours to rectify any non-conformance with the warranty by repair (by way of a patch, work around, correction or otherwise) within a reasonable period of time or, There are a lot of configuration options and its likely that SQ-64 will fit your requirements, assuming that you are looking for a hardware sequencer. If the SQ64 is not on part of the first 10 connected unit on you PC you need to fiddle around with your midi the driver list... (why is this a thing...)
