About this deal

You will find HDMI cables in multiple sizes in the market. Some are around a foot, whereas others are several meters long. But if you are curious about the maximum length of an HDMI cable, no such thing exists. The official standard HDMI specification doesn't recommend a cable length. As long as an HDMI cable meets the performance standards and can successfully carry the signal from one end to another, it can be any size. Information in the form of light is transmitted through the fiber optic cable’s core—the middle of each glass or plastic strand. Bigger cores can often transmit more light through the cable than smaller ones.

Compared to the typical HDMI cables, fiber optic HDMI cables can send signals over a longer distance without facing electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. Also, signal loss is significantly reduced when using fiber optic cables.

Bottom line

There were two versions released in 2015: one is HDMI 2.0a with extra support for HDR; the other is HDMI 2.0b additionally supporting another high dynamic range technology HLG.

Signal transmission on copper HDMI cables exceeding 7.5 meters is prone to signal degradation due to the difference of the copper cable attenuation parameters. For devices like projectors and surveillance video equipment, data transmission over copper HDMI cables will lead to poor experience of ultra-clear HD definition equipment. However, with optical HDMI cables, users do not have to worry about these problems at all, and problems like attenuation and distortion of the transmitted signal will never trouble you. Unlike optical cables, copper-based HDMI cables have issues with interference and length. The main issue here is going to be the length. If you want to transfer 4K video over a copper HDMI, you can only reach around 30 ft. before you start having issues (more on that in our HDMI troubleshooting guide).A fiber optic HDMI cable performs the same function as a typical (majorly copper) HDMI cable but at a more efficient rate. Like many other fiber optic cables, they help to transmit data in the form of light pulses using fine glass or plastic filament.

If better to use the panasonic dac, then should I go ordinary analogue interconnects, or the balanced pin cables? why? T he long-distance signal transmission attenuation (signal loss) over optical fiber HDMI AOC cable is almost zero due to the photoelectric conversion technology, and the long-distance transmission can reach 500 meters. This article will help explain all you need to know about fiber optic HDMI cables, such as how the cables work, what they are, and when to go for one. It will also discuss the age-old question: are they better than copper HDMI cables?
