About this deal

In our testing, we were impressed by the sound quality but we really enjoyed the Outdoor Boost because it makes the audio a bit less bassy and a little more shrill. It doesn't sound better than the normal mode, clearly, but it 'cuts through' better and is a handy addition. In an emergency, you can also still charge your phone from the Wonderboom 2, as long as you have the right Micro-USB cable which I doubt many people will. The audio is very impressive for the price: the dynamic range and power are things you’d expect in a speaker for twice the money, and the design looks high-end wherever you place the speaker in the room. It’s understated, and that’s a good thing. Long live simplicity. The sound quality isn’t perfect, audiophiles might notice a bit of distortion here and there, but for most people, it’s perfectly fine and it’s pretty loud. You’ll also get manual control over the bass in the smartphone app, or choose between three different preset sound modes. One of the most distinctive features is the multicoloured light ring around the top - it definitely jazzes up the design a little because the light dances to music. In the day it’s a bit underwhelming but at night it looks pretty cool. Like we have come to expect from Audio Pro devices, you get a powerful, clear and focused sound. The balance between frequencies is spot on, the low end is punchy while the highs are crisp and the mids are able to push through with enough force. There’s plenty of energy without drowning out any details.

It’s a promising start for the Audio Pro BT5 which fills the gap between portable Bluetooth speakers and multi-room Sonos setup.

The next step in the price analysis was to look at the average price you would typically expect to pay for HiFi systems and speakers and as Currys PC World was selected for this review we’ve used them for gathering our information on the average price of HiFi systems and speakers. Don’t let the primary colours fool you: for the money, the Ultimate Ears is a remarkably accomplished-sounding little device. It does manful low-frequency work without getting carried away, and it’s as detailed and balanced through the rest of the frequency range as anyone dare hope. Want to keep costs down without completely compromising performance? This is where your money should go. There are a few different ways to connect your devices to the speaker, the main ones being Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The Audio Pro A15 works with your other multiroom devices by Audio Pro, and it’s also compatible with both Google and Apple Home. For devices that don’t have wireless connectivity, you’ll be able to connect to it using a 3.5mm audio cable. And if you wanted to hook up an extra subwoofer there’s an output for that as well. It’s also important to have a good idea of your expectations in terms of quality too. You may not actually be looking for the best quality product if your main goal is to get cheap HiFi systems and speakers. So spend some time considering what’s important to you and think about the areas that you’d be happy to compromise or not.

For the ultimate in speaker control, each drive unit is driven by a dedicated, digital amplifier. With 30 watts for the bass unit and 10 watts to the tweeter, a total power output of 40 watts is on hand to give generous, room-filling sound. This is one small speaker that sounds bigger than it looks.

With a dedicated tweeter and woofer unit, you get a brighter, more detailed top end and a deeper, more focused bass response. Sonos nailed its multiroom experience some time ago, and has been improving it ever since. From the wide range of products (which now includes single speakers, a soundbar, a subwoofer, a surprisingly capable amplifier and more besides), to the smooth user experience (thanks to both a bespoke Wi-Fi mesh and the clarity and useability of Sonos’ control app), it’s an object lesson in giving people exactly what they want. Sometimes before they even realise they want it.
