About this deal

This is an intermediate leveljob; you will require some knowledge of plumbing and how a bathtub goes together, an understanding of legal requirements needed for this job*, and a healthy dose of confidence in your own ability . Use the tub drain tool, adjustable wrench, and plumber’s putty to install the main tub drain parts. Using a screwdriver, install the overflow faceplate and pipe. Attach the two drain pipes with a drain tee, but don’t install the P trap tube yet—one of the many helpful plumbing terms to know if you don’t already.

If you need to drain a radiator then the plumbtub will clip around the pipe and help collect the water, and as it gets full you can swap to a second empty tub. It is now time to work on your current plumbing, so it is best to isolate your water supply using your isolation valves. These are small, metal valves with a screw-head in the middle that you can turn to turn off the water to an individual tap. If you do not have isolation valves then you can switch off using the mains. We recommend perhaps taking this opportunity to fit isolation valves, they will be helpful for any future projects. The minimum toilet vent size depends on your plumbing code. In the IPC toilet vents are 1.5”, in the UPC it’s 2 inches. For more on venting a toilet read this article. Clean the area you are going to seal of any dust, grime or grease with a scouring pad and some methylated spirit. Make sure you use gloves as methylated spirits can be harmful. Our top tip:Before you begin sealing the bath, fill the tub with a few inches of water. This extra weight opens the joints between the bath and the wall, so the sealant runs between and helps to create a stronger bond. For remote delivery locations and offshore islands these may take longer to arrive, and in certain circumstances further delivery charges may apply. These locations include / but are not restricted to UK Highlands and Islands, UK Non Mainland, Isle of Wight and Northern Ireland.

The ultimate solution to all your radiator draining woes. Say goodbye to traditional tubs that can't reach those hard-to-get spots and hello to the flexible and versatile Plumbtub. Score and remove the cement board, drywall, or plaster underneath the wall finish below the cut line, and continue removing material until you reach the wall studs. Now you are ready to fix your taps, waste and overflow to your internal plumbing as per your manufacturer’s instructions. This is a case of connecting the flexible tap connectors to the right internal water pipes, you can use PTFE tape around any threaded connections to provide an extra strong seal. Your waste and overflow pipes must also by sealed tight to the bathroom's internal soil pipes beneath the bath. Another great option for small bathrooms are bath showers. By combining two major aspects of your bathroom, you will save floor space in your bathroom, making your space feel more open.Your job isn’t done when you’ve bought the bath; you also need to think about the things that go with it. Inset baths, for example, will need a bath panel for the final touch, unless you want the underneath of the bath on show. There’s a range of styles and finishes available, but you obviously need to make sure it matches both the bath and the rest of your bathroom.

At this point your bath may be raised onto some timber slabs to allow access under the bath to make the final connections. NOTE: Freestanding baths must be positioned with a minimum 50mm gap between the bath & any wall surface. This is to allow movement of the bath whilst entering & exiting the bath. Now, the process of bathtub removal starts. Place a piece of cardboard or thin plywood in front of the tub to protect the floor from damage. Use a pry bar, screwdriver, or a drill and screwdriver bit to remove the nails or screws that secure the tub flange to the wall studs. Slide the tub several inches from the wall and onto the floor protection. If a stringer board or tub-edge support board is present, remove it with a pry bar or a screwdriver bit on your drill. Chip away the old mortar bed if one exists. It's highly likely that an inset bath is going to be the main option for most people. Their big benefit is that they can fit into a large section of bathroom situations as they are flush fitted against a wall. You'll either have it so it spans the full length of the bathroom wall so only one side is showing - that can be covered with a bath panel – or you’ll have one end showing if your bathroom is on the larger side. You can also choose between single-ended, where the bath taps are at one end, or double ended, where the bath taps sit in the middle of the bath so you can use either side to rest your head. Single ended tends to the most popular option. Many modern bathtub models include an insulating support structure on the bottom. If yours has its own support, you can skip this step. One thing that people often forget to consider is how they actually use the bath. If you're a family that takes regular baths then chances are you're going to want something more durable that can withstand constant battering by kids. If you don't have many baths, preferring showers, but still want the option for a soak then a shower bath could be the best option. If you want a bath simply for a luxurious long soak then it may be worth investing in a stylish spa-like tub with all the bells and whistles, such as a whirlpool bath. You should also think about the style as a timeless design means you won't have to replace the bath for the long run.
