About this deal

When looking at the image above, the 1st small mark after the 4cm point denotes a measurement of 41mm. The next small mark in line would be 42mm, the next would be 43mm and so on. 41mm can also be referred to as 4.1cm (0.041m) but the majority of trades in the UK do tend to quote measurements in milimetres. How to Read an Imperial Tape Measure Few things finish a room as well as a lovely set of curtains. In fact, new curtains can give an old room a new lease of life. When taking internal measurements (i.e. from the inside edge of an object such as between one internal wall and another) the hook can be pushed against the object (e.g. skirting board) providing an accurate measurement.

A 16ft tape measure, for example, will have sixteen one-foot marks along its length and 192 one-inch marks (12 inches per foot). Each inch will then have eight 1/8th of an inch and sixteen 1/16th of an inch marks. The Ti-Tape is made of extremely hard 6Al-4V titanium. Titanium is known for its corrosion resistance, and has a very high strength-to-weight ratio. It is typically described as having the strength of steel with a weight comparable to aluminum. Whilst the seasoned professionals amongst you will no doubt be fully aware how to read the various markings on your tape, there will be amateurs, enthusiasts or those just starting off in their careers who aren’t yet so knowledgeable. We regularly get asked the question “how do you read a tape measure”. In response to our customers, therefore, we’ve put together this simple guide that explains just that! The Tec Accessories Ti-Tape Titanium Tape Measure is simply the world's smallest titanium tape measure. Foot marks are valuable, but often it's easier to avoid them altogether and measure only in terms of inches. That way, you only need to pay attention to one set of figures: inches. So, instead of a ceiling being measured as 7 feet, 6 inches, it would be measured as 90 inches. It's the same thing, but a little easier to read on the tape and remember.Think about your average day, and how many times having a tape measure would come in handy. Whether it's trade related (i.e. carpenter, engineer, interior designer) or just being able to measure a piece of furniture at the store to see if it will fit in that special place, it is one of those little tools that can make a big difference. It's also the perfect gift for engineers, technicians, architects, designers, teachers and anyone who appreciates great design!

Slightly larger diameter than a 50 pence piece, it is the perfect tape measure for everyday carry. Why? Because it is super TINY, ultra-durable, and extremely lightweight. It also includes a removable keychain clip, so you can attach it anywhere to keep it with you at all times. As if that wasn't enough, the user-replaceable 1 meter / 3 feet measuring tape ensures you will never have to buy another portable tape measure again. Ever. For the benefit of framing carpenters who do repetitive work, most tape measures also have convenient markings at 16-inch and 19.2-inch increments, usually designated by a number highlighted in red, or by a small diamond marking on the blade. These increments correspond to the common intervals for the studs, joists, and rafters that are used to create the basic structural framework for walls, floors, and roofs. You will rarely use these markings unless you happen to be building a shed or playhouse, or constructing partition walls during major remodeling projects. The titanium housing will ensure it will last virtually forever, far superior to those plastic or heavy steel tape measures. If the measuring tape gets worn or bent, it can be replaced so you can start with a fresh tape that is ready for action (we'll be offering the spare tapes as well).

How to Read a Tape Measure how On some tape measures, the inch markings repeat 1- to 12-inch increments on one side of the blade, with running inch increments on the other side (as shown here). Based on the same design as our standard Ti-Tape micro-sized titanium tape measures, these Exclusive Edition models are identical in every way except for the finish. The outer disc surfaces (top and bottom) have been laser engraved with custom design patterns, creating a look that is sure to catch everyone's attention. What's more, some tape measures (regardless of expense or quality) can feature steel blades with relatively sharp edges. They may not feel sharp at first but it can be a very different story when travelling at speed.

The next increments of measure on a tape measure blade are the inch marks, which will be identified by the longest lines and usually labeled with a single numeral—1, 2, 3, etc. Inch mark numbering usually continues along the entire length of the blade. At 8 feet, for example, you will see both a "8 ft." and a "96" inch designation. Think about your average day, and how many times having a tape measure would come in handy. When referring to the diagram above you'll see a series of large numbers marked 1, 2, 3, and 4. These numbers sit next to long vertical marks which represent whole inches. Put simply 1 = 1", 2 = 2" and so on. Between those numbers are a series of shorter marks which represent fractions of an inch. The mark directly in the middle of the inch denotes a measurment of 1/2" whilst the markings either side of it represent measurements of 1/4" and 3/4" respectively. Even smaller marks then denote 1/8ths and 1/16ths (marked in red) of an inch. For general construction work using framing lumber, it's usually sufficient to measure down to 1/8-inch increments. When framing walls, for example, tolerances down to 1/8-inch are usually completely sufficient to bang studs and joists into place. 1/16- and 1/32-inch increments are more often used in fine woodworking projects where hardwood workpieces need to fit very tightly.
