About this deal

As part of our work in schools we start our sessions by leading the Class, Key Stage or School in the daily act of collective worship. This is central to who we are as an organisation. Using a range of stories, role-play and quizzes we aim to make the experience relevant and interesting to the children. We can tailor this to link with school themes which can be discussed with our instructors. To build active hope we use “The Work That Reconnects” - a way to connect and reconnect with each other and our world.

This offered a beautifully held and welcoming space to connect with each other and reconnect with ourselves. I loved the journey through the spiral, coming away with a greater sense of possibility for our lives with this earth.” When the harm starts to happen, we could see this as a wake-up call to action, and respond rapidly,” says the medical doctor from his home in Scotland. In June 2022, Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone released a 10th anniversary revised edition of their well-loved book, Active Hope. This new edition features many updates from the first edition, including a new subtitle: How to Face the Mess We’re in with Unexpected Resilience and Power. Many people around the world have participated in Joanna’s workshops and trainings. Her group methods, known as the Work That Reconnects, have been adopted and adapted yet more widely in classrooms, churches, and grassroots organizing. Her work helps people transform despair and apathy, in the face of overwhelming social and ecological crises, into constructive, collaborative action. It brings a new way of seeing the world, as our larger living body, freeing us from the assumptions and attitudes that now threaten the continuity of life on Earth. The second chapter brings a new practice that offers a way for two people to go round the spiral of the Work That Reconnects in a half hour conversation. The importance of “we” - you are more significant, stronger, creative, and more deeply interconnected - with other human and non-human life - than you may have yet realized. What part can you play in reconnecting and being part of supportive communities? Neither complacent optimism nor resigned pessimism has power to motivate us; they don’t generate a hunger for learning or provoke our best response.

The Great Unravelling: draws attention to the disasters that Business as Usual is takin us toward. The collapse of ecological and social systems, the disturbance of climate, the depletion of resources and the mass extinction of species.

When we have this “team spirit” heightened sense of spiritual connection with life. Chapter 8: A Larger View of Time
