With the overwhelming number of triathlon hydration systems designed to provide around 20 to 24 oz, the fact that the FC System offers a 35 oz model is a significant upgrade. This hydration system also features an aerodynamic profile with a slip-free design so you do not have to worry about slowing down. This is also one of the larger frame mounted systems with a capacity of 24 oz and a bottle made of BPA-free plastic.
One of the biggest selling points of many rear mounted hydration systems is their ability to accommodate multiple bottles. A water bottle that has it all. The Aero Bottle is a double-walled, vacuum sealed insulated bottle made of titanium. This bottle looks particularly striking with a surface texture reminiscent of traditional Japanese washi paper. The subtle, irregular surface makes the bottle feel pleasantly warm in the hand, underscoring the noble value of the product. The inside is unique with its crystalized, shiny surface.

What ultimately seals the victory is the fact that this hydration system is about 50% lighter than the Profile Designs option. Bottles shall not be integrated to the frame and may only be located on the down and seat tubes on the inside of the frame. The dimensions of the cross sections of a bottle used in competition must not exceed 10 cm or be less than 4 cm and their capacity must be a minimum of 400 ml and a maximum of 800 ml.“ Because of this, we recommend that you use the Speedfil as a practice hydration system rather than for competition. The bottle is made of BPA-free plastic and is much easier to clean than some of the other frame mounted systems we saw. This hydration system also features a low profile which makes it more aerodynamic, but it also leaves it less secure when riding over rough terrain.
Make no mistake, Speedfil is definitely not on par with some of the more prestigious brands on our list, but it does have the advantage of a significantly lower price than the other front mounted hydration systems too. In this light, I have equipped it with wheels/handlebar/tires that would give me any practically minuscule yet theoretically gratifying gains, without compromising other variables too much. Rear – This is the original mounting position for bike fueling systems and is almost always a cage type of hydration system. This is mostly due to the fact that snaking a feeder tube along the entire length of the bike is not an efficient design.
While the type of a triathlon fueling system might impact how you use the product, the mount will generally determine which type it is in the first place as well as how easy and convenient it is for you to use. Much like with the hydration system type, the mount is as much about personal preference as it is about getting any kind of leg up on the competition. The watts saved by different hydration solution depends a lot on your riding speed. The faster you go the more gain you can get from using an aerodynamic solution for hydration. The slower the fewer gains you can get in comparison with a normal water bottle. So before choosing which solution is best for you, start by assessing your average speed on your next race. When it comes to frame mounted aero water bottle, XLAB once again takes our top spot, though the competition is a bit more fierce.
The Aero TT impresses us most with the inclusion of a carbon fiber cage that is less likely to deal with some of the durability issues other carbon fiber cages demonstrate because of its frame mounted position.Aero water bottles look very fancy on a road bike, even more, when they are fully integrated with the frame or handlebars. We have all seen pros using them on triathlon events. And many wonder if aero bottles are really worth it or if it is just a pro thing. This allows you to get a great price on a carbon fiber cage mounted to the frame, though it is not especially secure or durable. Reasonably Decent A 500ml round bottle is very common especially in triathlon events where you may get a bottle handup from an aid station. A smaller bottle like this can also be placed in multiple locations around the bike. In this test we found that the worst place to keep a 500ml round bottle was one of the more convenient: on the downtube! This cost 5.0w at 40kph, or 2.1w at 30kph. Over an Ironman bike leg at 5hr30min speed (32.7kph) this would be a 2min5sec penalty.
This is likely in part due to the fact that, aside from being made of carbon fiber, the mounting hardware is extremely light as well. Moreover, this frame mounted hydration system is also easy to install.According to this study, an aero water bottle can save 1.6 to 3.9 Watts compared to a normal 500mL water bottle mounted on the downtube. However, the benefits are negligible below 19mph (30km/h). The true benefits only show if you ride at 25mph (40km/h) or above.
