The pop - carbonated beverage to give it the correct name - was produced by the Corona Soft Drinks Company, a firm that had been created by two Rhondda grocers, William Evans and William Thomas. The original factory opened in the 1890s under the name of Welsh Hills Mineral Waters, the name Corona only being adopted in the 1920s as the company expanded its range of activities to include all of Wales and many parts of England. Corona brewed for the U.S. market, Ballast Point, and Funky Buddha are all owned by the same parent company, Constellation Brands. Constellation Brands also owns Mexican beer brands Modelo and Pacifico, as well as wines such as Robert Mondavi, Clos du Bois, Kim Crawford, Meiomi, Mark West, Franciscan Estate, Ruffino, and The Prisoner, and liquor brands including Svedka vodka, Casa Noble tequila, and High West whiskey.

Corona Extra proudly proclaimed itself the official beer sponsor of the infamous Mayweather vs. McGregor fight (soap opera?) in August 2017. You can view boxers and bouts in Corona’s video gallery and fight gallery. Corona is the first imported beer brand to partner with a U.S. university William Evans, the guiding force behind the company, died in 1934 but the company continued to expand with his brother Frank assuming control. By the end of the 1930s over 170 million bottles of Corona pop were being produced each year - and most of it was sold by the delivery man who came each week to people's doors.

Being Discussed Now

Valinsky, Jordan (28 February 2020). "The spread of the coronavirus couldn't have come at a worse time for Corona beer". CNN . Retrieved 2 March 2020. Corona Light– A pilsner-type lager with a taste that is refreshing due to outstandingly brewed light flavor combined with a clean, crisp finish. The Corona Light is the perfect brew for those who seek a light beer but want a full flavor, thanks to the characteristic hop flavor and the pleasing aroma of fruit and honey. Corona Light pairs well with citrus-infused and spicy dishes because it’s naturally easy to drink. In the early 1920s, Evans decided to rebrand his soft drinks and chose the name Corona. [3] A logo was devised consisting of seven wire topped bottles fanned to represent a crown over the new name (corona is Latin for crown). The brand was extremely successful and expanded across South Wales and at its peak, the company had 82 distribution depots and five factories, at Porth, Tredegar, Pengam, Maesteg and Bridgend. Although a common and popular sight throughout Wales, the horse-drawn wagons were phased out during the early 1930s and replaced by a fleet of motor vehicles. These vehicles, recognizable by their red and gold livery and Corona logo, were serviced and repaired by the company's own engineering shop attached to the Porth factory. [5] By 1934 the Porth depot had 74 vehicles and three years later that number had risen to 200. [6] Born in Mexico and brought up on the beach, Corona is lighter than traditional beers, with a crisp and refreshing taste. The aroma is fruity-honey with a touch of malt and the flavour is crisp and well-balanced between hops and malt, toward the malt side. In May 2020, the factory was the venue for BBC's Life Drawing Live!, where artists at the venue and viewers at home had the opportunity to draw from nude life models. [11] See also [ edit ]

The fizzy drinks may not have stopped drunkenness but they were hugely popular with all sections of society. And they had an immediate appeal for children who were soon drinking large quantities of the product. Parents soon learned that it was best to ration the distribution of the gassy liquid. Grocers Evans and Thomas from Porth were determined to find an alternative drink for the miners. They had already been introduced to soft drinks by a peddler from west Wales - artificial carbonated mineral water had been first produced by Joseph Schweppe in Switzerland in the 18th century and so it was not a new invention. The problem had always been how to keep the fizz in the bottle. The unmistakable colour, the one-of-a-kind taste, the unparalleled flavor of relaxation makes it 'la cerveza mas fina', made for gathering with friends. The door to door deliveries proved so successful - though they did little to reduce drunkenness - that further factories were opened in places such as Pengam, Maesteg and Bridgend. By 1934 the Porth depot alone was operating 74 motor vehicles - three years later there were over 200 vehicles. In 1958, the company was bought by the Beecham Group who kept the Corona brand. Although production continued to be centralised in South Wales, depots began to appear all over the United Kingdom. Under new management Corona reached a new audience and during the 1960s was promoted by a series of television advertisements starring British singer and comedian Dave King. [8] With the rise of supermarkets in the late 1960s and 1970s, the public's shopping habits changed and the door-to-door sales reduced. During the 1970s, one of Corona's most memorable advertising campaigns used the slogan Every bubble's passed its FIZZical! [9] In 1987 the company again changed hands, coming under the ownership of Britvic. [9] Britvic closed the Welsh Hills plant in Porth in 1987, with production being transferred to Bolton in Lancashire, England. Here are their prices on average.

Subtle flavours and low alcohol intensity means Corona can be overpowered. However, it's fragrant nature and citrus notes, when combined with lime, also make it a great partner for several cuisines: in particular Thai, Chinese and Mexican. The sweetness from the malts is also at the right level to reduce medium heat that can often be found in dishes from these areas. This section needs additional citations for verification. By the end of the 1980s they were a luxury and like the milk, bread and fish vans that had plied their trade around the streets for years, the Corona delivery man was soon a thing of the past. It didn't stop the sale of the product, it just meant that the personal door to door touch had gone. Corona and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) had a 5½–year sponsorship in which Corona was the ATP's premier worldwide sponsor. [ when?] [17] Corona was also the title sponsor of the SBK Superbike World Championship from 1998 until 2007. [ citation needed] Advertising [ edit ] Corona commercials for both Corona Extra and Corona Light typically take place on a beach with the tagline "Miles Away From Ordinary" from 2000 to 2007. Since the early 2010s, the tagline "Find Your Beach" was used.
