About this deal

The ‘Jet Collect’ system on the Bosch does seem to, perhaps, just make it the slight winner when it comes to collection of wet leaves on the lawn for example. The flow of air produced by this system seems to help prevent clogging of the collection box inlet and slightly improves compaction. Similar to a lawn mower’s cutting height, lawn scarification machines will come with different working depth settings. The extra features like the Bosch Powerdrive and the ‘Jet Collect’ system are not just nice to have features but features that improve the performance of the lawn rake and make that job that little bit easier, besides you want features that will help achieve a lovely looking lawn with least amount of work and effort. This again does put it slightly ahead of the Flymo Lawnrake Compact 3400. Features found on some lawn rakes don’t make the job easier but are “nice to haves”. The Jet Collect system is clearly a feature that makes a real difference to the job in hand, the collection box capacity is increased and the ability to collect the debris is improved – Great job Bosch!

At some stage, nearly every lawn is going to benefit from being scarified. It’s just a question of whether now is the right time to clear all the debris, or if there’s not enough for it to be worth doing just yet. When should I scarify my lawn? This lawn has a large thatch buildup and desperately needs scarifying. Of course, it’s entirely possible to scarify your lawn with a handheld rake. But this is a very labour intensive job that is also inefficient as well since you are unlikely to remove enough thatch. Mechanical lawn rakers offer an easier, faster and more accurate way to detach large areas. The cutting heights on offer are also pretty good. You can set it to scarify below the surface, as deep as -5mm, or just collect surface debris with the tines at +10mm high. No matter what you have it set to, this scarifier does a great job removing thatch and other garden debris such as fallen leaves. The grass box on the Bosch ALR 900 does seem to be a little flimsy which is surprising for Bosch, having said that it does not seem to affect the performance in any way. I believe the collection box feels a little flimsy as it comes in two parts. Bosch have done this to reduce the storage space required for the collection box as it can be split into two sides when not in use.

How To Measure the Rakers on a Husqvarna

Nobody wants to spend a fortune on a separate scarifier and aerator, especially considering that it’ll only be used once, or twice at most, a year. That’s what makes the Einhell GC-SA 1231 Electric Scarifier and Aerator so instantly appealing – not only does it promise to scarify and aerate, it boasts a pretty reasonable price point to match. The Einhell doing a great job! But what bugged me was the collector. Perhaps I was having a dozy day but the frame (which way round it should go) took me a good few minutes to decipher. The user manual might want to work on that.

Lawnrakers or scarifyers involve more intense lawn care. These machines dig into the grass and create slits through your lawn to remove decaying, organic matter beneath the newly shooting live grass.

The Bosch scarifier also comes with a collection box, rather than a bag. Not only was this hard, plastic box much more robust than the fabric bags that most other scarifiers come with, but, at 50 litres, it was almost double the size too. The large collection box saves you from having to stop to empty quite as often.
