Tom and Talula were looking for a mixer to pair with dark spirits like rum and whisky. Talula White explained to Verdict: The Slaughtered Lamb is a really great pub near Farringdon and Clerkenwell. Located on Great Sutton St, just off the Clerkenwell Road, The Slaughtered Lamb is a large spacious pub often frequented by those working nearby or on an evening out. So it’s got a really nice buzz, especially mid-week. The service at The Castle is good and the drinks selection varied and of decent quality. Personally, I’d say the 3.9 rating on Google is a bit harsh, as I said, the drinks are decent and the staff efficient and friendly.

Founder Talula White wanted lighter, fresher options that complement and lengthen spirits instead of overpowering them. Given the skill and craft that goes into their creation, when she thought about it, mixing with standard soft drinks seemed madness. “Why have we never created mixers specifically tailored for mixing?” she asked herself. When creating your mixers, what trials and errors have you experienced in the process when testing various flavours of mixers? Can you tell us more about your decision to reduce the amount of sugar in your mixers in comparison to other brands?However, with huge names like Schweppes and Fever-Tree available, Sekforde had to provide something different. Maison Bellot (from Aston Manor Cider) contains French apple juice, features no added sugar and consists of high fruit content with 100% natural ingredients. The sparkling soft drink contains zero sweeteners, is less than 90 calories per can and has a minimum of 49% fruit juice. It is available in 330ml single-serve cans for a hygienic, individual option and a resealable 750ml bottle. Good Earth Kombucha is an ambient product, so does not need fridge space and has a shelf life of 12 months but is best served when chilled.
Sekforde differs from other market leaders quite dramatically as the process and mindset behind the products is so different. While still set within the category of drinks mixers, Sekforde breaks new ground as they are designed from the outset as complementary to the spirit, rather than having a set flavour which can be paired to alcohols later. The rum mixer is centred around lime, mint, sage, rose and cacao bitters. With a lighter rum, it is grassy and fresh, perfect for a hot day. With heavy or aged rums, you get more of the caramel flavours coming through. That said, standing out on the shelf is only half the battle. Ultimately, it’s the taste of any drink which will convince customers to keep buying it. Max Halley and Ethan Davids are opening their third pub together in the market town of Marlborough in Wiltshire.Featuring a good food and drinks menu, the pub has plenty of indoor seating, with several benches around the parameter of the pubs for those that choose to go outside. Downstairs, there is a second bar and music room that often host events or parties, so it’s still pretty easy to get served even when those are happening. So, in her kitchen on Sekforde Street, she dreamed up Sekforde Drinks, created for mixing and tailored around the spirits themselves in every aspect. It’s been really positive. People enjoy the fact that you are able to taste the spirit alongside the mixer. They are often surprised and impressed that it does live up to this promise. We also have a lot of people who enjoy them as soft drinks. They comment that they are much more delicate and sophisticated vs. standard soft drinks.
