Our precise measurements of the toebox revealed that this New Balance is only a few millimeters wider than the average trail running shoe. Personal: B (The shoe rides smoothly and does its job well. I'm not a huge max cushion shoe fan though) This shoe, more suitable for non-technical terrains, would benefit from smaller lugs similar to those found in the Hierro v7. The More Trail v3 is big—inside and out Saucony Omni 20 Review- Our first guest reviewer, Ryan Flugaur, dives into the latest model of the long running stability trainer

This shoe is very close in design and purpose to the Hoka Bondi 7, and if you saw our review of that shoe I just thought it was too stiff. The Bondi fits heavier runners really well, and the ample amounts of foam underfoot were not that useful in my tests. The engineered mesh upper is soft yet supportive (a huge improvement from last year, but we’ll get into that later). It even seems to have a little bit of stretch to it. This upper is refreshing since it seems like most shoes now are leaving out the structure. Each update they have made in v2 and v3 have been successful for me. Although I wish they’d have left the heel tab the same as the v2, I know I am in the minority there. The material used on the upper is a double jacquard mesh which is flexible, and very breathable. However, as I found out while running during a rain storm halfway through my tests, they let all the water in. And they were not great at expunging the water that got in. So on those runs in the rain, your feet are going to get very wet. New Balance Fresh Foam More – Conclusion

BEN: Weight didn’t bother me, but cutting a few ounces never hurts. Although I don’t think I’d trade the stable platform for a weight drop. This pleasant feeling and fitting new upper is in sharp contrast to the rough and kind of crude feel of More v2’s thin engineered mesh upper, gusset tongue to hold it to the foot and its mostly un padded molded heel and collars However, just because the midfoot and the heel are secure doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice room in the toe box. I was able to toe splay freely with no problems. This was especially helpful on long runs when my feet started to swell. The last two digits of the number used to indicate the level of cushioning: a “60” being a stability shoe while a “80” a neutral shoe. This is the actual list:Ogston, J. K. (2019). Comparison of in-shoe plantar loading forces between minimalist and maximalist cushion running shoes. Footwear Science , 11 (1), 55-61. The above also does not mean that everyone should avoid cushioned shoes. While cushioning level may not have an influence on injury risk, comfort certainly does (Nigg et al., 2015). We also know that comfort means something different to everyone. If you are a person that finds highly cushioned shoes comfortable, then those are probably a good shoe to consider. If you are a person that does not find them comfortable, then you should probably look at other shoe types. I did not find the softness energy sapping or overdone although at slower paces it is a bit more ponderous in feel with the heel feeling lower but not nearly as low feeling as the Skechers Max Road at the same heel to toe drop I think due to the More's wrap around bulging heel geometry.

If you’re in the market for a maximal trainer that can still push the pace, then maybe give these a look. Shop Men’s Fresh Foam More v3 Shop Women’s Fresh Foam More v3 How Does the New Balance Fresh Foam More v3 Perform on the Run?

New Balance Fresh Foam More – Sole Unit

The inherent stability is there but in no way noticed, after the first couple runs that is until the shoe starts to get a long flex with a distinct near midfoot quite snappy flex point, nice. Sally : Two great soft shoes, similar but different. As Jeff waxes so poetically, the Invincible is a pretty special and uniquely fun shoe, soft and cushioned like the More but somehow more bouncy and energized. It’s like the More was the pretty gal at the party that everyone was eyeing, until that supermodel walked in the room. The Invincible is simply that good, unfortunately for the still fine More 3. The upper is your basic mesh that allows air to reach the foot. My size 10.5 fit true to size and held my foot securely. This surprised me since I have a narrow low volume foot and I felt secure without any bagginess or extra material. The padded tongue and collar keep the More 3 in the comfort zone. Taking its place is the new Ecostep rubber, which while sustainable (made from 30% recycled rubber), falls behind when it comes to traction on technical trails. DPT/Footwear Science: A- (Great set up. A New Balance HOKA with better forefoot flexibility. Those who want more rigidity in the forefoot may do better in the Bondi, but those that want some toe motion will do far better here)

We found the shoe's fit to be very accommodating in both the forefoot and the midfoot. There is plenty of space for toes to splay and feet to swell on those longer efforts. The laces are also on the positive side. They're made with a stretchy and durable fabric—and they look awesome! One of the major criticisms regarding New Balance's Fresh Foam X is its tendency to underperform in cold temperatures due to its EVA-based foam composition—as demonstrated in our in-depth guide. However, this time, that is not the case. The Fresh Foam More v3 showcases a honeycomb structure in its midsole, similar to the Asics Gel-Nimbus 25, delivering exceptional comfort to your feet. Whether you have a classic pronation or a neutral gait, these shoes adapt seamlessly to your running style. The result is a smooth and enjoyable stride that propels you forward with every step. Seize the Road Another thing NB got right with the More v3 is the platform width. This is a wide shoe, at 119.2mm in the forefoot and 102.1mm in the heel (average shoes are 112.6mm/89.2mm) it’s super stable which is needed since the Fresh Foam historically in my opinion has been a touch too soft. During our 90-degree bend test, we had to apply a force of 27.5N, 13% more bendy than average! Rubber is good enough, but not great
