About this deal

Currently there's no Netflix, though. Humax told us that discussions are ongoing, but as yet the market-leading streamer hasn't signed off on an app. If the Aura has an achilles heel, this is currently it.

Channel changing is near instant if you simply tap in the channel number you want, (Same works in the epg to skip to a channel you want to see the epg at the curent time) In terms of connectivity, the FVP-5000T was well-equipped, featuring HDMI, Ethernet, and USB ports, along with built-in Wi-Fi, which was not a given in all Freeview devices at the time. Humax FVP-5000T BBC iPlayer, All4, Demand 5, UK TV Player, CBS Catchup, Legend, Pop Player, BBC Sounds, STV Player, Netflix, YouTube The next step after looking at products in the same category, was to look at products from the same brand, Humax.

This news may come as a blow to consumers who have relied on the device for its robust features and reliable performance over the years. This recording function works for shows up to eight days in advance, since that’s around when the EPG runs up until. Since you can set an entire series to record you don’t generally need to see beyond a week anyway. But, again, setting lots to record isn’t really something you need to consider, since the three-tuner-toting box can record up to three channels at the same time while you’re watching another. So you may find yourself hitting record more often than you used to. It really is addictively easy. Humax FVP-5000T: Multi-room and beyond

Watching Netflix is just as easy – there’s a dedicated app (and a button on the remote), which you then control with the regular remote. Note, however, that the FVP-5000T only supports content up to 1080p, so you won’t be able to watch Netflix (or anything else) in 4K, at least for now. Slow and Steady Re your other issues, suggest you visit the MyHumax faq threads for the 4000/5000T (including how to display the programme info). The Humax FVP-5000T was well-regarded for its triple tuners, a feature that set it apart from some competitors by allowing users to record up to four programs while watching a fifth. The FVP-5000T is an impressive Freeview recording box that does most of what you could hope for. The advanced integration between the “live” Freeview channels and the catch-up apps, as part of the electronic guide, will be a game changer for some, combining both worlds for one smooth watching experience. In our original review, we stated that the quad-core 1.8GHz CPU and 3GB RAM combo resulted in a snappy user experience, but in our recent re-test it feels a bit sluggish. You might assume that this is down to newer features and updates slowing the system down, but Humax itself hasn't issued a firmware update since 2021 – itself something of a concern.

However, Manhattan is planning to launch two new Freeview boxes soon, the T4 and T4-R, although their release has been delayed. Operating noise is whisper-quiet. The internal fan is not intrusive, and the PVR's hard drive barely makes itself known. It's much quieter than a Sky Q or Virgin V6 box. A casual observer might think the humble Freeview timeshifting business had given up the ghost with the trend toward streaming and ubiquitous catch-up TV. The development of new PVRs has been driven by premium Pay TV operators, leaving those that have cut their monthly subscription contracts to squabble over simpler streaming boxes. Another thing I particularly liked about the interface was the Global Search function. You search for the name of a show – and the device will look for it wherever it can – so on your hard drive (shows you’ve recorded), on the Electronic Programme Guide (so you can mark the show for future recording), AND on the catch-up apps (so you can watch it right now via the internet.)

They will in this house. Many of the programmes I record simply aren't available on any streaming service. As long as there are adverts, people will always want to record the programmes. As long as there are pubs, people will always want to record the football and watch it an hour or two later. Keep in mind, when you’re using Freeview Play, it’s basically a fancy and convenient way to use the built-in streaming apps. However, those apps are different from recording shows directly – as they’re not kept on your hard drive, but are streamed to you from the internet. I'm aware of the "+" button to skip to a day. This doesn't excuse the clumsiness and snail-like pace of doing the most common operation on an EPG when browsing - i.e. scrolling left or right. This is the most common operation, which those people less technically literate (such as old people) will rely upon. In 2022, ITV announced that its streaming app, ITV Hub, would no longer be supported on the Humax FVP-5000T.
