Bowel rest: To give your intestines a chance to heal, your provider may recommend going without food or drink for several days or longer. To get the nutrition you need, you may receive intravenous (parenteral) nutrition. Only drink a prescribed liquid or have a feeding tube during this time. During a CT scan, you’ll be asked to lie down on a table. The table then moves through the CT scan to take cross-sectional pictures inside your body. UGI For a colonoscopy, your colon has to be completely clean (empty of poo). You will be asked to take a strong laxative around 24 hours before the test. This is called ‘bowel prep’. You will get a letter that will tell you what to do. The letter will either have sachets of laxatives with it for you to take or will tell you how to get them. Crohn’s disease causes long-term inflammation in your digestive tract, also called your gut. Its many symptoms include diarrhea, belly pain, weight loss, bleeding, and tiredness. But those problems also can be common to many different conditions. You'll usually have a team of health professionals helping you, possibly including a GP, a specialist nurse and specialist doctors. For some specialised tests, you may be asked not to eat (fast) overnight or a few hours before the sample is taken. Your doctor or nurse will let you know if this is needed. Your doctor may ask for these tests to be repeated over time. Why are these tests done? Damage to the throat or bowel - the endoscope can sometimes tear a hole in your oesophagus, stomach or bowel. This is called a perforation. It’s very rare, but you may need surgery to repair the damage if it happens. Immunomodulators: These drugs calm inflammation by suppressing an overactive immune system. They include azathioprine and cyclosporine. Before the scan, you will need to drink large amounts of liquid and avoid eating for a few hours. You may be given a contrast dye before the scan, which helps show more detail of the gut on the scans taken.

According to a company press release, individuals with these potential conditions will no longer need to bring stool samples to a clinic or laboratory for testing. The testing kit combines a stool extraction device called Calex, a calprotectin test strip and an IBDoc smart phone app.New York University Langone Health: “Your Gut Feeling: A Healthier Digestive System Means a Healthier You.” Patients are enrolled in the Competence Centre where a Patient Information Sheet containing a patient-specific QR code gets automatically generated. Give this to the patient once they have been inducted into the SmarTest Calprotectin test programme, and they can simply connect their SmarTest Calprotectin app to the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) team’s Competence Centre by scanning the QR code using their app. Once connected to the Competence Centre, all faecal calprotectin test results and disease activity questionnaire responses will be synchronised automatically with the Competence Centre, collated, and monitored. The SmarTest bowel inflammation test is simple to use for the patient and the medical monitoring team. Symptoms of Crohn’s and Colitis can come and go, so your symptoms might get better while you are waiting for your colonoscopy appointment. It is still worth having your colonoscopy. Your doctor might find signs of inflammation on a colonoscopy or biopsies even when you do not have symptoms. Preparing for a colonoscopy
