About this deal

Kepnes’ series continues to be a sly, subversive exploration of what people choose to reveal and what they hide in their relationships, and just how difficult it is to truly know another person. That Kepnes manages to limn such heady subjects in such a compulsively readable way while serving up twists aplenty is the reason the series still feels fresh three books in. With the Netflix show, You, based on Joe’s exploits and set to return for a third season, there’s never been a better time to get acquainted with Kepnes’ dangerously appealing leading man.” –BOOKLIST (starred review) When Joe goes to dispose of her body, he gets caught by Oliver, a private investigator that the Quinn family sent to keep an eye on Joe. Oliver knows Joe received a big payout from the Quinns, and Oliver wants Joe to buy stuff for him in exchange for his silence. Joe agrees.

The trouble is . . . Mary Kay already has a life. She's a mother. She's a friend. She's . . . busy. The only issue I had with this book and it's a small one, is that it became a bit difficult at times to follow the discussions because Joe was acting as another person. Does that make any sense? It slowed down my reading just a bit, because I wanted to be sure exactly what was happening. I think this is due to the second person point of view, and also because I'm obsessed with getting everything straight in my head where Joe is concerned. In fact, I may be a bit obsessed with Joe, in general. Three weeks later, and Joe is deliriously happy. He and Mary Kay are secretly hooking up all the time. Oliver is concerned because she’s married, but Joe reassures him. Mary Kay has even met with some divorce attorneys. Mary Kay notes that Joe will eventually have to meet Phil if things work out (but of course in reality Joe has already met Phil).Crazy, sexy, cool: Caroline Kepnes gets better – and Joe Goldberg gets worse – with every book’ Erin Kelly I want to say that the TV show has been letting me down. Since they changed the ending of season 2 (why was that necessary?) I haven't liked it as much. It was still entertaining but IDK, something is missing. The trailer for the next season came out and I'm just so... confused. SO MANY CHARACTERS. Reasons I hate Mary Kay: she's married. And hid that from Joe. He should have been like OKAY MOVING ON. This bitch is nothing special. She's a liar, she's married, let me find a new conquest. But no. He perseveres for this bitch because... why? She has a daughter? He wants a family? So what.

Of course, it’s never easy with Joe, who instantly finds a connection with librarian Mary Kay DiMarco – and we all know what that means . . . We can’t wait to see where he ends up next’ MetroThis is a story of care, of connection, of resilience and most of all of love. Brotherly love. It is a deeply personal story and one which I feel touched to have read. As a fan of nature writing and memoirs I really enjoyed Manni's writing - gorgeously descriptive passages detailing the countryside nestled comfortably alongside the seemingly mundane acts of their day - crucially, I never felt as if I was intruding, by looking in. A last mention has to go to Reuben's brilliant illustrations, which fill the book with colour and personality. Oliver works for the Quinns, but money is tight for him because his mother has cancer. He wants money, since he knows Joe got paid off to leave the Quinns alone, and in exchange he’ll keep his mouth shut. He has no incentive to tell on Joe because if Joe goes to jail, he’s out of a job (since his job is to watch Joe). Oliver also says that there can be no more of this keeping-people-in-dungeons-stuff, too. Joe readily agrees to the deal (Oliver calls it the “Poor Boys Club”), and Oliver helps him clean up the Whisper Room so that it’s spotless. What you will see coming is book #4 which I will be on the hunt for. I am torn between 3 and 3.5 stars. This book although slow in parts, is brilliant in other parts. Did Love change Joe? The third book in the You series seeks to answer this question. (It's worth noting that I actually shrieked "Oh My God!" when I learned I had gotten an early copy of this novel to review. Thanks so much to Random House for this treat! The book releases on April 6, 2021.) Million thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for sharing this special reviewer copy of this incredible book with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

He loves the story of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, and the world of the Hobbits. But for Reuben it is all real. If you loved the book series or the show, I have fantastic news for you. You Love Me is probably exactly what you are hoping for it to be, and I think you’ll enjoy it. I had plenty of fun reading it. There’s lots of surprises, twists and utterly unhinged Joe-Goldberg-ness in store. The text was not a question, says Manni, it was a prompt. “That was Reuben’s way of saying ‘come and get me out of here. If you love me then show me the colour of your love’. Is that what you meant Reubs?” Reuben raises his finger in agreement. The colour of their love is probably a red rainbow, he says. a b Karp, Marcelle (July 11, 2018). "Entre Nous: Caroline Kepnes". Barb Magazine. Archived from the original on January 23, 2019 . Retrieved January 23, 2019.This is one of those unique books that draws you in, breaks you down and then lifts you up at the end so that you end up feeling full...you then spend the rest of the time sharing this book with everybody you know so you can experience it all again through them....so get a copy of this book and share your thoughts with me. (I mean a literal mind meld not your opinions). There is some grief for me, attached to that, and although I’m Reuben’s big brother, he is the closest thing to a son I’ll ever have: I knew I had to nurture him.” Joe is going to be volunteering at the Bainbridge Public Library. Mary Kay DiMarco, (MK for short) is the library’s branch manager. It’s only been a short time but Joe already feels like he knows Mary Kay so well. However, this time he is trying something new. He’s not going to be obsessive. He‘s not even going to Google Mary Kay. He’s determined to be Mr. Good Guy.

Well, boy was I wrong. This book was just not it. Not even close. And that breaks my heart because I can't even describe how much I love the first two. I've read them each maybe 5 times each? More? Even worse: I think there's a series of novels with a corresponding TV show in which the TV show has made substantial changes, and not only are the changes for the better, but TV in general is a better medium for the story than a book. When Mary Kay walks in, Nomi starts claiming that Joe came onto her, angry about him rejecting her. Mary Kay doesn’t believe Nomi, and soon Nomi lashes out at Mary Kay instead. Joe recognizes that Nomi has been hiding her pain from, 18 years of her parents’ toxic relationship that she has stored inside her. When Nomi implies that Mary Kay is a bad mother, Mary Kay angrily tells Noni the truth about Phil’s affair with Melanda. Then, she tries to hug Nomi, but Nomi grabs her and pushes her away. Mark Kay tumbles down the stairs. No more words! I’m giving entire stars of galaxy or rename a planet as Kepnes! This book is beyond five starred reading! You're just going to put Joe in the middle of a new town/storyline, deciding to pave over (ignore, essentially) the previous ending that he was in jail, about to have a baby. The Quinn's paid him 4 million dollars to walk away from Love and his son? REALLLLY?????The book, published this month by Little Toller Books, tells the story of their journey together during Covid and how they wrote and drew their way through one of their biggest ever challenges. Their pictures and words communicate with one another but also express the voices of two interweaving individual lives. It also describes their lives growing up in the Yorkshire Dales, then Berkshire, with their parents in a family of four brothers – a life that “orbited the church”, writes Manni. At one point they lived in the care home that their father ran. It was very sad to see him so desperately lost. It was as if all the loneliness was the widening of a river between us – I could see him, but I didn’t know how to get to him.”
