About this deal

Work in a well ventilated area, at a temperature above 5 degrees Celsius and out of direct sunlight. Wear the gloves provided. After years of detailing cars, we have tried and tested plenty of plastic trim restorers and only very few produced excellent results. In terms of rating the plastic trim restorers within this article, we based our recommendations upon our own experience of using multiple branded products as well as a number of factors. The factors that we considered included their type, ease of application, durability, surface compatibility and value for money. Plastic Trim Restorer Buying Guide Pictured below is cowl trim piece on a Porsche Boxster, and you will notice how faded or aged it looks. Over time with exposure to the sun all trim will begin to look like this if not properly cared for and protected. This is where a product like Gtechniq C4 is perfect.

The final option would be to simply paint the plastic trim. The plastic may be past restoring and this would be a permanent fix. Alternatively, you could plasti dip the plastic trim or even use automotive vinyl wrap to cover up any defects. The best feature of the Gtechniq C4 is the fact that it permanently restores plastic trim for up to 2 years, which is far longer than the alternatives. Soak the pad with several drops of product. Use the AP1 Lint-free Applicator supplied to spread the coating onto the surface of your trim. Ensure the surface(s) you are going to coat are free from any contaminants. For best results clean trim with a neat solution of W2 APC Universal Cleaner Concentrateand if required use a medium stiff brush C4 uses a covalent or chemical bond to actually become an extension of the plastic molecule it is protecting.

You can see that once dried the product will drastically darken the trim leaving a dark, rich sheen on the trim. The unfortunate reality is that plastic restorers are not permanent fixes. They will fade over time and will degrade fast in rainy environments. You can slow this process down by using a plastic sealant or protectant. It may take a couple applications and some elbow grease to work the product into the trim to an even finish. To be fair, I’d rather use a product that took a little work to apply but lasted than one that was super easy and washes away the first time it rains. C4 utilises a covalent or chemical bond to become an extension of the plastic molecule it's protecting. Not to be confused with much weaker electrostatic bonds used by, amongst others, ptfe based polymers, C4 swaps part of its molecular structure with the surface molecules of your car's trim. What this means is that you now have a protective coating of unparalleled durability. Unlike many trim products on the market, C4 is an exceptionally thin (circa 30nm), optically clear film which means that it does not add an unattractive gloss film to the surface instead it restores all but the most faded trim to an as new condition. You can expect approximately 2 years from a single application. Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary.

After the car and the trim has been washed with a shampoo that does not contain any waxes or forms of protection and dried, the trim then needs to be prepared before applying C4. This can be done by using an all purpose cleaner. When I was applying C4, I opted to use Gtechniq W2. This is recommended by Gtechniq as the cleaner of choice. Given that this is recommended by Gtechniq, I thought it was the best way to apply the C4. What this means is that you now have a protective coating of unparalleled durability. More for auto enthusiasts

Before starting ensure you have enough product for all intended trim surfaces. E.g For a Mini (30ml) you will require more product compared to a Golf (15ml) I've just applied it ... I have no idea how long it will last. I have VERY high hopes and equally, HIGH expectations.

If you prefer to use a spray formula, the Torque Detail plastic restorer is the best option. It’s a 3-in-1 spray that restores, shines and protects plastic, vinyl or rubber surfaces. The brand claim that it’s the easiest trim restorer to use on the market and they aren’t wrong. The advanced formula uses true nanotechnology, which permeates plastic and provides protection for up to 6 months. Ensure the surface(s) you are going to coat are free from any contaminants. Once the product has spread over all intended trim, gently wipe away residue immediately with a clean, dry microfibre buffing cloth The guidance says to apply with a make-up remover pad and to wipe off with a microfibre towel. That towel should be an old towel because this stuff crystallises into the fabric of the towel rendering it pretty useless for other tasks. Having coated my laptop at work on Friday, I was used to the drill and decided to deviate slightly ... The most popular trim restorer on the market is the TriNova formula, which is a cheaper alternative to the Gtechniq that darkens and shines the surface.
