About this deal

B and B-: Good and above average. The best of the mass market whiskeys fit in this category, as do the bulk of the premium brands. A B- is three stars. My journey into the world of spirits began as a pub owner, where I cultivated memorable experiences for patrons and nurtured a deep appreciation for fine liquors. Tyrconnell Finishes is a brand expression made by finishing 10-year-old Tyrconnell in sherry, port and Madeira casks. [3] The Tyrconnell Madeira finish was named by whiskey author Jim Murray as the Best Irish Whiskey of 2008 in his Whiskey bible.

There’s a light caramel touch, and the whiskey leaves almost no warmth as it goes down. Is it smoky? The flavor profile offers notes of pineapple, along with orange, caramel, vanilla, and a touch of oak spice. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. A+: A masterpiece and one of the ten best whiskeys of its type. Above five stars. Here, I’ve immersed myself in the art of crafting Mezcal, gaining a newfound appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into distilling this ancient spirit. The malt gets its name from an odds-beating racehorse named Tyrconnell who ran—and won—the 1876 National Produce Stakes Horse Race at The Curragh, which, according to the brand’s publicists, is “Ireland’s most important thoroughbred racecourse.” Why is it that whiskey culture and horse racing seem to go together around the world? This can serve as a good introductory bottle to smoky whisky before exploring Scotch Whiskies from Islay, known for their strong smoke characteristics. This experience was a precursor to my venture into the liquor shop business, where I had the privilege of curating an extensive collection of liquors, granting me access to thousands of unique bottles from across the globe. Citrusy on the palate, with more oak than I got on the nose. Slightly spicy with hints of vanilla and caramel. Lots of lemon going on here, almost like a lozenge. Very light honey. Soft mouthfeel. Water brings out more spice and some bitter salivating oak. Even more elegant than the nose, the subtlety here is almost to a fault. The Tyrconnell is a historic brand of Irish whiskey that has been revived by the Cooley Distillery owned by Beam Suntory.
