The Honor 50 is curiously similar in terms of design to the Huawei Nova 9, right down to the dimensions, weight and rear camera design. The companies may have divorced, but it’s apparent they’re not quite over each other just yet. One display issue we encountered was with the always-on display, a feature that didn’t always work. We couldn’t fathom why it would work sometimes and not at other times – phones with AODs customarily turn it off when the device is face down, since you wouldn’t be able to see it, but that wasn’t our experience with the Honor 50.

In my experience, the Honor 50 easily lasted a day of use – even with the 120Hz enabled at all times rather than having selected the dynamic option. More worrying is the fact that the device doesn’t have an official IP rating, meaning that we have no idea how it would cope if caught out in a rain shower or dropped in water. As mentioned, the main camera performs pretty well in low-light conditions, and we took some good snaps of fires and fireworks that weren’t as blown-out or obscured as similar images have been on other phones we’ve used. The return of these apps is a night-and-day difference, once again making Honor’s products a viable option rather than a curiosity best avoided. Charging is done at 66W, which is fairly fast for a mid-range phone, though certainly not the speediest. At that speed it took roughly 40 minutes to power up the device to full.relative humidity of 45% to 80%, 66W HONOR charger and the original charging cable are used to charge The average temperature for the upper side under maximal load is 33.6 °C / 92 F, compared to the average of 32.7 °C / 91 F for the devices in the class Smartphone. One hour of watching Netflix at default brightness consumed just 3% of the battery (with it taking approximately 40 minutes to dip down from 100% over that time period). For another point of reference, the battery went down from 92% to 88% after one hour of streaming music to my Bluetooth headphones.
