The Honor Pad 8 is every bit as good as many other Android tablets that came before it, and with reliable battery life, a colour-accurate display and solid build, it does a lot right. However, its foibles are too great to ignore. The body feels solid without being too heavy at 520g which is less than a Nintendo Switch Lite or a 12.9-inch iPad Pro. But is it worth avoiding any potential headaches by paying extra and going the Apple route instead? The Honor Pad 8 has 22.5W charging when you need to top up that big battery again, and while that might sound like a decent rating for a modest tablet, it does still mean that charging is going to take a while to complete. With an impressive resolution of 1200 x 2000 at 194 PPI, putting it in the same range as the Samsung S6 Lite and making it sharp enough to handle that large display which made it great for film, reading comics, and looking at photos.

The software is Honor’s own Magic UI 6.1 overlaid on Android 12. Honor is now fully separate from Huawei, so it has the full complement of Google Mobile Services that were previously missing from its devices following US legislation. Xiaomi’s Android tablet has a great software experience, more processing power and a better-looking display, but it’s smaller and a little bit more expensive.
